Shamekia Morris, a 29-year-old stylist from West Palm Beach, has sparked controversy with her unique habit of adorning her six-month-old son, Treylin, with temporary tattoos. While Shamekia shares this experience with thousands of fans on social media, not everyone is supportive of her idea. Critics have gone so far as to call her irresponsible and question her parenting abilities. Nevertheless, Shamekia, who is also heavily tattooed herself, refuses to let the criticism deter her from living a lifestyle that she and her son enjoy.
Upon seeing the photos and video clips that Shamekia shares on TikTok and Instagram, one might mistake Treylin for a regular customer at West Palm Beach tattoo parlors. Covered in intricate and realistic “paint” from his neck down, the young boy resembles a child rap superstar, sporting body art that rivals some of the hottest stars in the music industry. However, it is all an illusion.
Although Treylin’s tattoos are merely temporary and known to be fake, some individuals remain unsettled by their appearance and make sure to voice their disapproval to Shamekia.
The 29-year-old mother recently opened up about the backlash, sharing, “I get a lot of backlash, people say I’m raising my son like a ‘gangster,’ a ‘thug.’ They’re not used to seeing a baby with tattoos. The backlash was horrible. It hurts my feelings because I know I’m not a bad mother, and I get called all kinds of names.”
Initially, even Shamekia’s own family had reservations about her decision to apply tattoos on Treylin. However, witnessing her transform her passion into something positive and amass a significant following on social media, they have become supportive.
“When Shamekia came up with the idea, I wasn’t in agreement; I was totally against it. I didn’t want her to do that to him,” shared Dinera, Shamekia’s sister. “But since I saw where it could lead her and Treylin, I had no problem with it because it ended up being a positive thing.”
Shamekia emphasizes that her son genuinely enjoys receiving tattoos and participating in photo shoots and videos. Treylin has his own collection of clothes and sneakers, and he relishes the attention he receives from people on the street.
Despite facing negative reactions from certain individuals, Shamekia Morris remains steadfast in her decision to maintain her current lifestyle. She firmly believes that she is a loving mother to Treylin and has no intention of discontinuing their temporary tattoo tradition anytime soon.
