Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany believes former President Donald Trump is eager to go after Vice President Kamala Harris’ selection as her running mate due to their liberal backgrounds.

Harris’ campaign on Tuesday announced she chose Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, a far-left, self-avowed socialist, to be her running mate, leading to immediate criticism from Republicans and right-leaning voters.

Because of how “far to the left of America” Harris’ politics have been, McEnany said on “America’s Newsroom” that she believes the Trump camp is “cheering” about Harris’ choice.

“This is a stunning choice. I imagine there’s a lot of cheering at Mar-a-Lago at the moment. Look, Tim Walz, he’s no one to scoff at. He unseated a six-term Republican in Congress, he won a conservative district. He began as a moderate and then he had a radical transformation as soon as he got a trifecta in Minnesota. I think it is fair to call him a progressive in sheep’s clothing,” McEnany said.

“When you look at his record over the last few years, what you see are transgender surgeries for minors, carbon electrical grid by 2040, driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants. In function, his abortion policy allows abortion until birth. These are policies that are far to the left of America. And as John McCormick at The Wall Street Journal pointed out, Kamala Harris has to do the exact opposite of what Tim Walz did,” she said.

“Tim Walz became more progressive. Kamala Harris is trying to become more moderate. But Republicans will say, ‘You have shed all your progressive policies, but yet you chose a progressive instead of the guy who outperformed Donald Trump and Joe Biden in Pennsylvania, and that man’s name is Josh Shapiro,’” she added.

“So, the word coming out of the Kamala Harris camp to reporters was ‘chemistry.’ She wanted someone with whom she had chemistry. I would love to know what Obama said to her on the phone, because this time last cycle, four years ago, Joe Biden was having apprehensions about choosing Kamala Harris,” she continued.

McEnany concluded: “He called Obama, he expressed these reservations to Obama, per CNN, and Obama said back to him, ‘None of that is as important as winning.’ So I wonder what Obama said. Because if this is a chemistry choice, that’s fantastic if you’ve got chemistry, but if you don’t make it to Pennsylvania Avenue in two months, the chemistry doesn’t matter. So I’ve got to believe this was an innate decision of how she was feeling, but feelings should go out the window when you’re looking at the path to 270.”

During a separate segment on “Fox & Friends” following the announcement, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) went through many of Walz’s radical positions.

“The top of the ticket is what really matters. Kamala Harris’s choice of Tim Walz reinforces what we already knew: that she’s a dаngеrous San Francisco liberal. Just consider during the BLM riots in 2020, Tim Walz allowed rioters and arsonists and looters to rampage through Minneapolis. Kamala Harris then turned around and encouraged contributions for the bail fund for the few that were actually arrested.

“Kamala Harris has said she wants to decriminalize illegal immigration and stands up for illegal aliens and fights for their rights. Tim Walz has turned his state into a sanctuary state where vioIent illegal felons…he’s given driver’s licenses to illegal aliens, he’s given college tuition to illegal aliens,” Cotton continued. “Kamala Harris is a San Francisco liberal and Tim Walz is a self-professed socialist. He says that one person’s socialism is another person’s neighborliness. So the American people are gonna make their decision based on Kamala Harris’s dаngеrous record but Tim Walz simply exposes that record once again.”

“My in-laws live in Minnesota. The only thing they’re happy about is that maybe this means now they’ll get rid of their failed governor. But it’ll be even worse for all of us because the Harris-Walz record shows what a disaster they would be in the White House. It confirms again that they will be governing from the far left if they get into the White House. It would mean higher taxes, more inflation, more crime, more chaos at the border and more war and chaos around the world,” he added.

“I served with Tim Walz in the House. I know him,” Cotton noted.
