Aging is difficult for many reasons but staying active and caring for our bodies is a great way to age gracefully. Abbi Franklin from Guildford, Surrey, England has been having self-esteem issues as she recently hit a huge age milestone. However, the “glam mom” maintains her appearance and was recently “flattered” by an ID check when she attempted to purchase tobacco products.

Abbi Franklin has 2 daughters, ages 17 and 23. Although she suffers from health issues that prevent her from working, she fills her time caring for her body and appearance. Recently, in March, she celebrated her 50th birthday but has since been less confident. While she takes great care of herself, and often is mistaken for someone around age 35, she recently had an encounter with a clerk who “flattered” her, reminding her that she still looks great.

ID Please

The mom of 2 left her younger daughter in the car with her purse and ran into a Co-op convenience store only to be asked for her ID. She was attempting to buy tobacco products and had to run out to the car to get her wallet, containing her ID. Admittedly, her ID isn’t something she generally carries with her so it’s fortunate that she had it this time. “It was great – my best day ever! I’ve been bouncing all week because of this.” She said. “I just kept saying “you’re joking.” And he kept going, “No, I need to see ID.””

    • Care for skin
    • Stay hydrated
  • Get plenty of rest
  • Stay Physically active
  • Find new hobbies

Skin Care

Skin is the largest organ in the body and provides multiple benefits. Therefore, caring for it is essential to maintaining overall health. However, skin loses its elasticity and suffers from sun damage with age. Meanwhile, the body slows the production of necessary proteins like collagen. Taking supplements that contain collagen and omega-3 is a great way to enhance the skin’s appearance. Additionally, spa treatments like Infrared facials can help increase cell production and improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles. Lastly, staying hydrated and incorporating things like coconut or cacao water into your diet will boost hydration and increase your antioxidant intake.

Stay Hydrated

Hydration isn’t only important to maintain skin’s health. Staying hydrated is also one of the easiest ways to maintain overall health and well-being. However, it’s possible to over-hydrate, which can be dangerous. Therefore knowing the factors can help prevent adverse effects. For example, you’ll likely need more water if you live an active lifestyle. Be sure to note how thirsty you feel as that’s the body’s way of communicating it needs more water. Additionally, you can add more fruits and vegetables to your diet as many contain water.

Balance Rest and Activity

It’s equally important to be well-rested as it is to stay active with age. A healthy balance of both will make your body feel well-rested and boost your metabolism, heart health, and mood. Additionally, finding new hobbies is a great way to have fun and enjoy life, while perfecting a new skill and strengthening your brain. As a result, a stronger brain will help maintain functions like reasoning or cognition.

Oral Health is Key

Lastly, maintaining good oral health is essential, particularly as one ages. This is because when people age they experience a loss of bone density, making teeth more vulnerable to decay. Additionally, infections in the mouth can spread to other parts of the body including the brain.
