According to Japanese news media, Ken was raised in a nearby restaurant. After he was photographed attempting to enter the museum in March 2017, the so-called “offensive and defensive battle” between the guard and the black cat has been the focus of attention of museum visitors and passersby. Interestingly, Ken would only do his challenging antics when Mr. Mayahara is on duty.

On April 18 this year, Ken had a brilliant plan in mind. When the schemey black cat came to the art museum’s glass door entrance, he was greeted by a smiling Mr. Mayahara. The guard on duty that morning squatted and petted the black cat. After a few minutes of play, the guard relaxed. This was Ken’s opportunity to break in. The conniving cat suddenly pounced on Mr. Mayahara’s foot and ran past him. Ken sprinted towards the museum’s open glass door and successfully entered. It was his victorious moment after 7 years of attempts. Ken was finally free to roam the museum everywhere he desired.
A curator at the Onomichi City Museum of Art said that many tourists visit the museum during cherry blossom season. The cat may have wanted to enter with the visitors but is, unfortunately, driven away every time he comes. It has been speculated that after years of attempting to enter, the black cat grew weary and decided to attack the security guard.
And he was finally victorious!
