In a touching scene from a hospital in Zhejiang Province, China, an elderly couple who had been together for nearly 70 years shared a final, heartwarming moment that has captured the hearts of people all over the world.
The couple, 92-year-old Feng Ming and 95-year-old Zhang Ping, found themselves both admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Yinzhou Hospital. Feng was battling heart failure and other complications, which had left him unable to speak and dependent on life support. Meanwhile, Zhang was being treated for a fractured femur on a different floor.
Aware that Feng’s health was rapidly declining and he wished to see his wife one last time, the hospital staff made special arrangements. Despite ICU visiting hours being restricted, the head nurse, Wang Yanfang, organized for Zhang to be brought to Feng’s side outside the normal visiting time.
The emotional reunion saw Zhang speaking tenderly to Feng in their native dialect, reassuring him by saying, “Don’t worry about me. Rest assured that I can take good care of myself.” Feng, deeply moved by his wife’s words, shed tears during their final moments together.
Shortly after this poignant farewell, Feng passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loved ones. Nurse Wang reflected on the decision to allow this last meeting: “We made an exception for the elderly couple to meet so that the touching moment can happen and be preserved, I am grateful that we made a right choice.”
This story just shows the deep bond Feng and Zhang shared. Their story is a powerful reminder of the strength of love and the importance of cherishing every moment with our loved ones.
