Some famous people in Hollywood catch our eye because they live fancy, extravagant lives.
But then there are stars like Sam Elliott, who’s known for something else: showing everyone that real love is possible.
Elliott, who is 79 years old, has been married to his wife Katharine Ross for a whopping thirty years.
Sam Elliott is a famous actor who has many female fans worldwide. But he’s devoted to one woman: his wife of thirty years, Katharine Ross.
They first met while working on the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” where Ross had a big role. Elliott, on the other hand, felt like he was just a small part of the background. He said, “I was just a shadow on the wall, a glorified extra in a bar scene.”
Even though Elliott fell in love with Ross as soon as he saw her, he didn’t do anything about it. He thought of himself as just an extra, while Ross was a big Hollywood star.
“I could only watch Katharine from afar,” he said. “I never talked to her. I never even thought about talking to her.”
Elliott was smitten with Ross right away, but he didn’t rush things. He waited for the right moment.
They crossed paths again while working on a movie called “The Legacy” in 1978, and that’s when Elliott finally talked to her.
They got along really well, and six years later, they got married. Ross had been married four times before, but this was Elliott’s first marriage.
With Ross’s history of failed marriages, she might have been unsure about how well her fifth marriage would turn out. But after 30 years together, she knows she made the right choice.
They both support each other’s careers well. When Elliott almost turned down a big role in a movie because they were on their honeymoon, Ross made sure he could still audition.
They have a daughter named Cleo Rose. She became a famous musician after studying singing professionally.
Sam and Kate’s lasting love and hard work keeps them together day in and day out.
“Common sensibility, but we also work at being together. You work past the s–t; you don’t walk away from it. That’s how relationships last,” Elliot told AARP Magazine.
So simple but so true.
The couple divide their time between their homes in California and Oregon, and Elliott says he would like to move them out to “La La Land” in the future.
Elliott and Ross even got to fulfill a dream they’d had during their relationship: to actually share the screen as husband and wife. The managed to do that twice: in The Hero as well as Love Letters, the latter which Elliott calls a highlight of his career.
Elliott believes their strong relationship comes from loving and respecting each other. He says Ross is steady and experienced.
He thinks determination is important. Even when things are tough, you have to keep going.
We’ll probably see more of these actors, hopefully in more projects together!
