Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala 2024 look has received a lot of attention – but for the wrong reasons. Now, fans are questioning one specific detail that they just can’t overlook.
On Monday night (May 7), the reality star joined a host of other A-List celebs as she walked the red carpet of the prestigious Met Gala 2024.
The annual event has quickly become one of the most anticipated evenings for fashion, with stars from an array of industries competing for the most talked about look.
Sadly, 43-year-old Kim got people talking for the wrong reasons, as fans weren’t receptive to her silver John Galliano corset-style gown.
Not only was Kardashian called out for just how cinched her waist was, but many social media users couldn’t help but joke about how she chose to accessorize the look – with a simple grey shawl.

But fans just couldn’t piece the two items together, and quickly flooded her Instagram comments section to mock her shawl, with one person writing: “What’s with the GAP cardigan?”
Another added: “We are gonna need a full explanation on the cardigan choice.”
One X user even questioned if Kim had suffered a “wardrobe malfunction”, and that’s why she needed the shawl. “Oh my! Kim Kardashian’s looked gorgeous at the Met Gala,” they wrote. “Just wondering if she had a wardrobe malfunction…. She could have had something else on the top to cover the problem…. I don’t understand???? Why?”
Others agreed that the shawl ruined the overall look, with one fan writing: “Kim Kardashian would have been in another REALM at the MET if someone just brushed her hair and took the random-ass cardigan away?????????? Stunning gown absolutely ruined.”
However, it wasn’t just the shawl that left many fans scratching their heads. The SKIMS founder was also criticized for her choice to have her waist cinched so small.
After sharing a series of photos of her in the dress on her Instagram page, many of her 363 million followers criticized her look, with people branding it “scary”, “unhealthy”, and “painful”.
“I’m sorry I am a fan but the waist in this photo is not ok,” one person commented.
A second added: “I respect the branding beast she is as well as the style but the waist is scary.”
“To all the ladies, this isn’t natural dont think for one sec this is what you need to look like,” one Instagram user wrote.
“Looks like you’re in pain,” one person said, with another unimpressed user simply commenting: “Dislike.”
Another Instagram user branded the look: “Unhealthy standards and unhealthy looking.”
The night prior to the Met Gala, Kim appeared at Netflix’s The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady.
Taking to the mic as a special gust roaster, the Kardashians star actually delivered some hilarious jokes throughout her set – but you’d be forgiven for missing them all as the crowd welcomed her by mercilessly booing the reality star. Check out the moment below:
When Brady eventually took to the stage at the end of the night to return the favor and take shots at his celebrity roasters, he delivered what was perhaps the most brutal joke of the evening.
“I know Kim was terrified to be here tonight… not because of this but because her kids are at home with their dad,” Brady said, referring to Kim’s tumultuous relationship with ex-husband Kanye West.
So… not the best start to May for Kim.
