Joe Flaherty, who starred in Happy Gilmore, FREAKS, and Geeks, has passed away. His age was eighty-two.
The tragic news of the man’s passing was announced on X, formerly known as Twitter, by Joel Murray, who starred in the film “One Crazy Summer.”
“We’ve lost another of my idols,” Joel wrote.
“Joe Flaherty, RIP.”
Gudrun Flaherty, Joe’s daughter, announced her father’s passing in a press statement.
He stated, “He left us yesterday after a brief illness, and since then, I’ve been struggling to come to terms with this immense loss.”
“Dad was a remarkable individual, renowned for his infinite generosity and a steadfast love of films from the 1940s and 1950s.”
She remarked, “His insights into the golden age of cinema not only shaped his professional life, but they also provided me with endless fascination.”
“We had the incredible chance to watch many of those classic movies together over the last few months as he dealt with his health issues—moments I will always cherish.”
Joe made his debut on SCTV as a member of the original cast of the show in 1976.
He played Guy Caballero, Big Jim McBob, and Count Floyd.
He has portrayed other well-known figures on SCTV, including Kirk Douglas and Elvis Presley.
The actor was well-known for his work on the NBC dark comedy series Freaks and Geeks, which lasted for one hour.
Fans of the cult series related to his portrayal of Harold Weir, a father of two teenagers.
The actor is also well-known for his role in Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore as the jerk Donald.
