Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes, we may not even recognize someone as a hero until we see them in action.
Often, when we think about heroes, the first thing that comes to mind is likely someone who has a job in that area, such as a fireman or a policeman. Although anybody could be a hero, those individuals tend to have the option of becoming an actual hero more often than others.
One of the reasons why a hero may step up to the plate is in the case of the missing child. It is one of the most stressful issues a parent would have to ever go through, and the people of Ontario County, New York, found that out personally.
A 2-year-old girl had gone missing from her home in that area and many in the community were looking for her. One person who was nearby was a state trooper, Brian Hotchkiss.
Officer Hotchkiss was on his way home from duty that day when he heard the call come in over the radio. He decided he would get in on the rescue effort, and he jumped in without thinking.
At first, they were knocking on doors to see if they could find information about the little girl, thinking that maybe she had wandered off to a neighbor’s house. Eventually, however, it started to get dark and they knew that a different approach was necessary.
Officer Hotchkiss was concerned that the little girl might be outside in the cold somewhere and now it was getting dark. At this time, they were fairly close to the little girl’s home but they knew that there was a mountain with woods nearby.
The police officer knew that he needed to have a better vantage point, so he climbed to the top of the mountain. He felt that if he had a better view of the area, he might be able to see the little girl.
At first, the only thing he saw was the surrounding area, including trees but then he saw a pink dot in the middle of it all. He knew that the little girl was wearing a pink shirt, so he went quickly in that direction.
It was a moment that nobody would forget, and you can watch the following video to learn more.
