Marriage isn’t always easy. It takes work to maintain a high level of connection and intimacy with a partner through the years. And when you toss kids and a reality show into the mix, things can get dicey.
For Teen Mom and Down Home Fab stars Chelsea Houska and Cole DeBoer, their relationship seems as strong as ever. The parents of four have been married since 2016. And recently, they dished on the secret to their enduring happiness as husband and wife.
Make everything fun.
During a recent interview with E! News, Chelsea opened up about the secret to her and Cole’s happy marriage. “Making everything you do fun,” the 16 and Pregnant star told the news outlet. “So even when we are working, it’s fun. We try to have a good attitude, positive energy.”
As Chelsea shared in a 2019 tweet, they even manage to make going to a grocery store fun.
Taking time to spend with each other is key.
Aside from finding the fun in everyday life, Houska stressed the importance of taking time out of the day to spend with Cole. “If you can just have an intentional moment just for lunch even, we’ve definitely tried to do that a lot,” she explained. “And I think that helps.”
Being thankful is also important.
Gratitude is yet another marriage yet the reality star shared. “Once a day, even, I’m like, ‘I’m just so thankful for this life,'” Chelsea told E! News. “And that Cole and I get to do this together, I’m always just so thankful.”
Don’t be selfish.
Cole also chimed in with his top marriage advice: “Don’t be selfish.”
He explained: “If you love this person, you can grow with this person and enjoy life. So it’s really not hard. You’re living life with your best friend.”
It’s all about teamwork.
Although working with a spouse probably isn’t right for every marriage, for Chelsea and Cole, it strengthens their bond. “We’re creating so many awesome projects and working with so many amazing people,” Cole told E! News. “But being able to do that with Chelsea has made it even better.”
