A woman has been paralyzed from the neck down after she attempted a dangerous yoga move.

Speech therapist, Abby Weiss, 32, from San Diego, suffered from a horrific injury to her spinal chord back in June, and has been left unable to move her body from the neck down, ever since.

Weiss had been practicing acroyoga – which is a combination of acrobatics and yoga – when the accident occurred.

During the session, she took on a difficult move, but unfortunately fell and suffered horrifying injuries.

She has been receiving round-the-clock care ever since.

On a GoFundMe page set up for Weiss, a post explained: “This accident has left her paralyzed from the neck down.

“As a dedicated pediatric speech therapist and business owner, Abby has always served her community with compassion.

“Her love for life extended to hobbies like acroyoga, Zouk dancing, hiking, yoga, learning Spanish, and world travel.

“… Currently in the ICU, Abby’s journey to recovery will be long and challenging. She will need funds for medical equipment, pain management sessions, transportation to relocate back to Chicago, and continued medical care.

“Your support can help Abby regain her strength and independence. Please donate to aid in her recovery and bring her closer to doing what she loves again. Every contribution is deeply appreciated.”

So far, the page has reached almost $160,000.

Weiss’ father, Rory Weiss recently spoke to WISTV where he explained the reality of his daughter’s injuries.

“She said the other day it feels like she’s in a straight jacket. She can’t move. Everything’s got to be done for her,” he said.

“Had I known the type of maneuvers she was doing I would have told her not to do it. But I don’t think she would’ve listened.”

Meanwhile, her aunt, Judy Washer, who was packing up her belongings in her apartment, added: “It’s just awful to have to pack her stuff up. It’s just awful and it didn’t have to be like this.

“The San Diego community: thank you for giving her the wonderful years that she had here.”

In the most recent update on the GoFundMe page, some positive news was shared about Abby’s progress.

It explained that she’s made ‘a lot of progress in eight weeks’ and is currently undergoing daily therapy.

“She is doing her daily therapy at Shirley Ryan and is always eager to do more to strengthen her body. Abby is willing to do anything to help her body move and is putting in the work needed for this!” It reads.

“She receives stimulation therapy to help stimulate the muscles, and is trying to move her head a little more each day. The other day she said she had new sensation in her Achilles, which we love to hear!”
