They say that twins are born with their lifelong best friend. That is definitely the case for Anna and Lucy DeCinque who became stars in TLC’s Extreme Sisters reality series. They have crowned themselves “the most identical twins in the world” and they do everything together. This includes dressing alike, going to the bathroom at the same time, and eating the exact same amount of food.
‘” You name it and we do it,” explained Anna. “We’re never apart. I don’t think we’d function without each other. We have separation anxiety. We’re bound to each other.”
Additionally, they have shared the same boyfriend, Ben Byrne, for ten years. But now they want to share another experience: Getting pregnant at the same time.
“We’re very lucky to have each other”
In a clip of Extreme Sisters, the twins discuss becoming pregnant at the same time with Ben. They note that, unlike previous experiences, pregnancy is a lot harder to control. As Ben said, there are a “lot of things you can’t control in life.” However, Lucy responded, “But this is us,” as Anna said, “You know we have to be identical.”
Despite the difficulty, the twins know they can rely on each other. “We would love to give Ben kids but that’s such a hurdle that we’re going to face. But I think we’re strong girls,” said Anna. “Whatever comes our way, we’ll tackle it and handle it.” Together, the twins said, “We’re very lucky to have each other.”
During the reality show, Anna and Lucy track their cycles and take their temperature to check for ovulation. They attempt IVF, while, of course, doing the entire process together, including lying in bed with their legs up the wall to help with the fertilization.
Despite the new experience, the mirroring of each other is completely ordinary for them. They had spent over $250,000 on cosmetic surgery so they can look like each other as much as possible. [1] The symmetry works in smaller ways as well. If one twin vacuums for five minutes, the other has to vacuum for five minutes after, all under each other’s supervision. When they have individual time with Ben in the bedroom, he makes sure to please each twin the same way.
Sharing One Boyfriend
When the twins’ dated different men in the past, they felt like their boyfriends were trying to break them apart. Meanwhile, Ben understands and respects their bond.
As Anna explained, “It was great from the start. We just hit it off straight away. It’s so much easier for us to share a boyfriend. I don’t mind that he comes over to kiss Lucy, because then he’s going to kiss me. He treats us equally. He knows that whatever he does to one twin, he does to the other.”
“Ben understands our bond and doesn’t judge us,” added Lucy. “That’s how it’s been from Day one. There’s never been any jealousy. I don’t know how we had separate boyfriends. People can judge us how they like — this is how it works for us.” [2]
He proposed to them during a romantic picnic in a park with a set of three rings for each. The middle ring each featured a huge diamond. He explained the three bands represent the three of them as he continued, “Anna, you mean the world to me and I want to spend my life with you, and Lucy, you mean the world to me and I want to spend my life with you too. I love you, I love you both.” Since polygamy is not recognized in Australia, the three talk about going to another country for their wedding. But Ben promised them he was “willing to do whatever it takes to make you happy”. [3]
“Our bodies need to be the same”
However, their obsession with symmetry has its risks. For instance, in the first episode of Extreme Sisters, Anna had an infected tooth that needed to be removed. Therefore, Lucy demanded her tooth be removed as well but the dentist refused. [4]
After trying IVF, the two took pregnancy tests but they both read negative. But Anna explained that if she had become pregnant, Lucy “would definitely get pregnant straight away because our bodies need to be the same”. She added, “We would try to make that happen, definitely.”
