Snoop Dogg may be famous on stage, but his role as a grandfather shows a softer, loving side shaped by happiness, loss, and deep family love.
Born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., Snoop Dogg has built a life that’s more than just music. He’s also known as a dedicated family man. Married to Shante Broadus since 1997, Snoop has four children: Corde, 30; Cordell, 27; Cori, 25; and Julian, 26, from a previous relationship.
Over time, Snoop Dogg’s family has grown, making him a proud grandfather, with each grandchild holding a special place in his heart. He especially keeps the memory of one grandchild who passed away alive, making sure they’re remembered by the family.

In 2007, Snoop Dogg talked about his family values while promoting his reality show, “Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood,” showing a different side of hip-hop artists as family men.
Speaking to People, Snoop shared, “I got kids, and I always play my music for them. I like to hear what they like. They think I’m old, but I think I’m young.”
Reflecting on his fatherhood journey, he said, “Ninety percent of rappers grew up without fathers, but you see ninety percent of those rappers becoming fathers to their kids. We don’t ever get commended for that.”
As his family has grown, the “Voice” coach has stayed active with them. In a 2015 interview with Today, he humbly rated himself as “about a 7-plus” as a father and spoke of wanting to improve.
“My relationship with my kids is more important than anything. It’s a friendship … based on me being a father, a mentor, and a friend,” he said.
When asked about being a grandparent, Snoop described himself as a “gullible, get-away-with-everything kind of grandpa.” Talking about his first grandchild, he shared, “It’s just a spark of joy just to look in his eyes and to be able to hold him. I thank my oldest son for making me a grandfather.”
In January 2024 on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Snoop spoke about his grandkids and how each calls him “Papa Snoop,” a nickname given by his eldest grandson.
Snoop said, “[My grandkids are] different ages, ranges, [and] sizes, and I love them all the same way. Actually, my oldest [grandson’s] birthday is today, so I’m on my way to his birthday party when I leave here.”
He recalled that his grandson used to call him “Papa Noop” due to trouble pronouncing “Snoop.”
The Loss of Snoop Dogg’s Grandson
Snoop also went through the loss of one grandchild, a tragedy that has deeply affected his family.
In September 2019, his grandson Kai Love passed away at just 10 days old. Snoop shared a message on social media, posting, “If you’re facing something you don’t understand: Choose to trust God. Remember all He has done for you. His ways are higher than ours. He is always good.”
The post received an outpouring of support, with people offering words of sympathy. One person commented, “So sorry for the loss of your grandbaby… sweet precious little Kai RIP… God bless and comfort all who love him…❤️🙏🏻”
Kai’s parents, Snoop’s son Corde Broadus and his wife, Soraya, were heartbroken. On what would have been Kai’s fourth birthday, Soraya posted a tribute on Instagram, sharing her grief and how she found a new purpose.
“Happy heavenly birthday to my 1st son Kai Love who passed away 9-15-2019,” she wrote. She explained the pain of losing a child due to a congenital heart defect. Soraya added, “I know God used this painful time in our lives to help others.”
She explained how losing Kai inspired her to focus on wellness and community support. Soraya later founded the “Kai Heart Foundation,” which works to spread love and healing.
In a post from December 2022, Soraya talked about the foundation’s goals: “Started Kai Heart Foundation in 2019 after my son Kai passed away at 10 days from heart defect…He inspired me to help others through acts of LOVE + healthy lifestyle.”
Through their grief, Snoop and his family continue to honor Kai’s memory, finding strength and purpose.
Snoop Dogg’s Grandchildren
Snoop’s first grandchild, Zion Kalvin Broadus, was born in January 2015 to Snoop’s son Corde and Jessica Kyzer. Zion’s arrival marked the start of Snoop’s journey as a grandparent. Snoop shared the news, posting, “Proud grandad. My son spank n grandson Zion!!🍼🙏🌟✨”
In August 2018, Corde and his wife Soraya welcomed a daughter, Elleven Love. On her fifth birthday, Soraya celebrated Elleven on Instagram, saying, “this old soul/young Queen taught me how to be a mom when I didn’t even know how to change a diaper.”
In March 2019, Snoop’s son Cordell and his wife Phia had their daughter, Cordoba Journey. At a 2023 Chanel show, she appeared with Snoop, showing their close bond.
In February 2021, Snoop’s family grew again with the birth of Sky Love Broadus, Corde and Soraya’s third child. Sky’s arrival was celebrated by Snoop’s wife, Shante, who shared a video saying, “I’m So Happy My 5th GrandBaby Boy Was Born Today 💙💙
A month later, Cordell and Phia had their second child, Chateau. Shante posted joyfully, “My 6th GrandBaby Girl #ChateauBroaudus 😍😍”
In May 2023, Snoop welcomed his youngest grandchild, Symphony Sol. Cordell and Phia had announced Symphony’s upcoming arrival with a family photo shoot in December 2022.
