On Election Day (Tuesday, November 5), Harris stopped by the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington DC to meet with staff and those who are phone banking for her campaign.
One particular video circulating social media was captured by CNN cameras and shows the 60-year-old speaking to a caller. However, one particular moment has since fuelled allegations on social media of the call being “faked”.
Check out the clip below:
“Hi. How you doing?” Harris could be heard saying to the unnamed person after introducing herself.
“I just came by to see if all [these] incredible people from every background who are all here voting make calls to reach out to our fellow Americans to remind you how important your vote is,” she continued, cited by News.com.au.
The presidential nominee then asked if the person had voted already. She paused for a second before exclaiming: “You did? Thank you.”
When Harris turned her iPhone screen around to her supporters, who cheered loud enough for the other person at the end of the line to hear, many viewers at home noticed that her device appeared to show that she had the camera app open.

Critics took to social media to accuse the Vice President of faking a phone call with a voter.
“Kamala just acted like she was calling a voter but when she showed the crowd her phone the camera app was open,” one widely-shared tweet read.
“She was taking a pic of herself,” one user on X (formerly Twitter) claimed. A second said: “Caught in 4k as well,” while a third added: “You can’t make this sh** up.”
“Always, everything is so fake,” another X user replied, with a fifth tweeting: “Lyin Kamala at it again.”
However, many were quick to defend Harris and pointed out that iPhones allow you to have the camera app open while on a call. “No. Kamala Harris didn’t ‘fake a phone call’ just because you see a camera app,” a user slammed.
“Try it, make a call, open camera, hold it to your cheek, and remove it. You will see the screen activate/disactivate to prevent your cheek from dialing (like hers). iPhones only do this while you’re on a call,” they explained.
“We all know swiping your screen on lock mode opens the camera on iPhone and that’s probably what happened here, her ears probably made the swipe,” another chimed in.

Harris’ alleged gaffe comes as voters wait to see whether Harris or Donald Trump will win a historic presidential race after the first polls closed.
According to the results, the 78-year-old Republican nominee has won in Florida, Kentucky, and other traditionally Republican-leaning states.
Meanwhile, Harris has secured victory in Maryland, Vermont, and other traditionally Democratic states.
Each candidate will need at least 270 electoral votes to win.
