Following today’s meeting with Rockstar’s parenting company, Take-Two, there have been a number of updates on the highly anticipated game that is Grand Theft Auto VI.
GTA 6 was first announced back in December 2023, to the reactions of millions of frenzied fans across social media, who were just happy they were given a release date for the video game, which has been 11 years in the making.
The ninety-second trailer hinted at a few potential features, such as in-game social media being introduced, 24/7 news channels, police body cam footage and more.
At the end of it all, it simply read: ‘Grand Theft Auto VI, coming 2025’.
Now, according to documents published ahead of an earnings call with Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company confirmed that GTA 6 is still on track for a release date in Autumn 2025.
A release read: “With many exciting new titles coming in fiscal 2026 – including GTA 6 in the Fall, Borderlands 4 and Mafia: The Old Country – we expect to create long-term value for our shareholders.”
Fiscal 2026 refers to the financial year that starts in April 2025 and ends in March 2026.
It looks like the game is on course for a similar release date to its predecessor, which came out on 17 September, 2013.
It’s the first major update on the game since the trailer was released, which was said to be rushed after footage of the game was leaked on social media in the days before.

The news comes after a 365-day window was given at the end of the trailer, which was enough for Rockstar fans, with lead characters Lucia and Jason set to have a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired relationship intertwined with crime and love.
The former will become the first female lead in the franchise, with the sixth game of the series also heading back to Vice City, inspired by Miami, for the first time since 2002.
Despite a former Rockstar employee hinting towards a potential 2026 release due to delays on past games, fans have stayed hopeful.
PC users will be made to wait regardless though, as it was announced by Rockstar themselves that the game will be made available to PlayStation and Xbox users by 2025, with no mention of those on computers.
A ‘leaked’ date of 27 October 2025 made its way across the internet after appearing on IMDb recently as well, though this should be taken with a pinch of salt, despite Rockstar’s parent company’s good performance.

Rockstar has finally given fans a long-awaited update on what’s going on with Grand Theft Auto 6.
You’ve all read the memes online about how we got ‘such and such before GTA 6′ – but you won’t be able to say that soon.
Take-Two Interactive, a major investor of the Rockstar Games, has come out to publicly show the notes from their conference call, which explained how well the company performed financially in quarter 1 of Fiscal Year 2025.
And it means good things for the future of the classic game series.
If you’re not sure what the whole finance thing means, every company’s financial year is usually between April to April – so if the 2025 financial year is April 2024, to April 2025, this is the first quarter of the fiscal year they can report on.
It’s confusing, but it’s a little bit of information you now know about.
Anyway, the company explained that the call between the Chairman and the CEO, and Strauss Zelnick was very positive about the game.

Focusing on the GTA franchise, he shared that releasing GTA 6 as planned in Autumn next year is all good to go.
Zelnick talked about the game during the call, its development and other GTA successes for the company.
He said as per ComicBook.com: “The Grand Theft Auto series exceeded our expectations, as momentum continues to build ahead of the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI in Fall 2025.”
“Unit sales for Grand Theft Auto V continue to grow, and to date, the title has sold-in over 200 million units.
“Grand Theft Auto Online also surpassed our projections, led by its Summer content pack, Bottom Dollar Bounties, which launched June 25th.
“The audience for Rockstar’s premium membership service, GTA+, grew strong double digits over last year, with Rockstar Games offering its members an array of valuable benefits that range from enhancing the in-game experience to providing access to their classic titles, including the recent addition of L.A. Noire.”

Even though business is doing well and the success of GTA isn’t slowing down anytime soon, fans are still asking when they’ll be able to see another teaser trailer after the official was released not too long ago.
Well, it’s almost been a year and we’re looking at you, Rockstar Games.
Eight months have passed since the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer was released by the companies which threw fans into utter chaos.
However, we’ve had nada since.
If we’re going to go off GTA 5’s marketing strategy, surely, we should be waiting another four months until the second trailer drops as there was a year between the two during that round of promotional material.
11 months passed between the Red Dead Redemption 2’s official announcement and its second trailer, too.
So, we should be prepared for the second to drop in December – just in time for Christmas.
Obviously, nobody has confirmed this but come back to this article before New Years and let us know if we were right.

There’s not long to go until the latest Grand Theft Auto arrives. Well, we hope.
Said to be one of the biggest video games ever to be released, GTA VI is particularly anticipated with it being a long ten years since Five came out.
And now the game’s publisher is saying pricing should be based on the playtime.
There’s really not a lot known about the latest from Rockstar Games, except for a lot of discussion in a price hike from £60 to £70.
Yet, CEO of Take-Two Interactive (the publisher behind the GTA series), Strauss Zelnick has a more unique perspective on how video games in general should be valued.
He reckons games should be priced at their ‘per-hour value’, essentially meaning that the longer a game is, the more money it is worth.
This could arguably be a solver to those quicker games being cheaper than mega open-world RPGs.
Rockstar Games
The Gamer reports Zelnick said: “In terms of pricing for any entertainment property, basically, the algorithm is the value of the expected entertainment usage, which is to say that the per-hour value times the number of expected hours plus the terminal value that’s perceived by the customer in ownership if the title is actually owned, not, say, rented or subscribed to.
“And you’ll see that that bears out in every kind of entertainment vehicle. By that standard, our frontline prices are still very, very low because we offer many hours of engagement.”
The GTA series is of course known for having major open-world ad extensive game play, so by this thinking, would be worth more money than a shorter game.

While all this is going on, it’s not totally clear just how much GTA VI is actually going to cost, just that there’s been a trend of $70 releases in the states.
Rockstar recently announced that a trailer will finally be dropping early next month – just in time for the Christmas hype.
But there’s still time to go potentially, as rumours suggest GTA VI will be released either early 2024 or early 2025 – let’s just hope for that closer time.
While there isn’t much know about the latest game in this coveted, top-selling video game series, we know it’ll take much the same form as the other recent GTAs.
There’s been ‘leaks’ though, suggesting we’ll be returning to Vice City and that we could have a first female protagonist, named Lucia.
Ah, let us play already!

Brace yourselves, the trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI could literally drop any minute.
For years and years we’ve been expecting a big announcement – and last month we finally got it.
Rockstar Games took to X to share a long-awaited update to its fanbase.
Millions were instantly filled with excitement when Boss Sam Houser revealed that the first trailer for GTA VI would be coming in ‘early December’.
It could even drop while you’re reading this.
“In 1998, Rockstar Games was founded on the idea that video games could come to be as essential to culture as any other form of entertainment, and we hope that we have created games you love in our efforts to be part of that evolution,” the tweet read.
“We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto.
“We look forward to many more years of sharing these experiences with all of you.”

Although fans will still need to wait a little longer to play the highly anticipated video game, it seems that those with a Netflix subscription will now be able to enjoy three classic GTA titles in the meantime.
Netflix said: “Starting today, fans can pre-register to play Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, featuring the genre-defining titles of Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, each updated for mobile.
“Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition adds to a growing catalog of more than 80 mobile games, with must-play titles across all genres adding further value to all Netflix memberships — including through one of the most iconic series in history, without any ads, in-app purchases, or extra fees.”
Excited by the news, one gamer tweeted: “Netflix wasn’t playing around when they said they want to be part of the gaming industry.”
“And just like that, I learned Netflix has games. Since when?” a second person wrote.
“Playing video games with my roku TV remote as god intended,” added a third.
Rockstar Games
“Our job is to incrementally scale to the place where games have a material impact on the business,” co-CEO Greg Peters told analysts on the Q3 2023 earnings interview last month.
“We’ve got ambitious plans there. We want to really grow our engagement by many multiples of where it is today over the next handful of years.”
Here are descriptions of the three GTA titles coming to Netflix on mobile:
- Grand Theft Auto III – The Definitive Edition: Welcome to Liberty City – Where it all began. With a massive and diverse open world, a wild cast of characters from every walk of life, and the freedom to explore at will, Grand Theft Auto III puts the dark, intriguing, and ruthless world of crime at your fingertips.
- Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – The Definitive Edition: Welcome to the 1980s – From the decade of big hair and pastel suits comes the story of one man’s rise to the top of the criminal pile. Grand Theft Auto returns with Tommy Vercetti’s tale of betrayal and revenge in a neon-soaked tropical town full of excess and brimming with possibilities.
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition – It’s the early ’90s. After a couple of cops frame him for homicide, Carl “CJ” Johnson is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets.

The trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI is finally here, albeit a little bit earlier than we expected after someone leaked it online and Rockstar decided to post the real thing in response.
While the trailer has released a bit early gamers are having a wonderful time taking in the sights of Vice City, the setting for the sixth game in the series.
Watch the trailer:
However, we’ll all have to do a bit of waiting before the thing is actually out as we’ve been told it’s going to be releasing in 2025.
The trailer might have been dropped early but we probably can’t say the same about the actual game, so now we wait and eagerly devour any updates or fresh looks at GTA 6 that Rockstar throws our way.
Spare a thought for the Rockstar developers who worked on the game and were hoping to get their big moment of unveiling the trailer on their terms, as some who are working on GTA 6 said they wished they could have had that moment.
Rockstar Games
We did get to have our first look at playable couple Lucia and Jason, as well as some of the stunningly detailed locales of Vice City and the surrounding area.
However, some players are already turning their minds to how much of a hole GTA 6 will burn in their bank account.
Part of the reason behind this is that the price of games seems to be creeping steadily upwards, so by 2025 the idea of a new Grand Theft Auto game being really expensive isn’t outlandish.
Then there’s the comments from Take-Two Interactive (the publisher behind Rockstar) CEO Strauss Zelnick, who has said he thinks games ought to be priced at their ‘per-hour value’.
Essentially that means the longer a game is and the more content it has for you to enjoy the more expensive it should be.
Rockstar Games
Say what you like about the GTA games but they’re pretty blooming long and you can spend hours on minigames that don’t bring you any closer to the end.
Earlier this year Dexerto reported that there were rumours going around that GTA 6 would cost $150 (£120), which is one hell of an increase in price on GTA 5.
However, right now it’s just a rumour and there is such a thing as sticking the price so high that it scares away buyers.
Grand Theft Auto is one of the most lucrative entertainment franchises in the world and suddenly cranking up the price for one of the most anticipated games in history might sour some of that excitement.
It’s not outside the realms of possibility that an edition of GTA 6 could end up costing somewhere in the rumoured price region, but these days you can buy all sorts of special edition games which are packed with extra goodies and collectibles.
