Tom Selleck is a hugely popular Hollywood actor. Through his many performances, he has earned a place in the hearts of countless Americans.
The actor leads a rich private life, which he enjoys in the house he has called home for decades. Read on for more information on Tom Selleck.
The actor made his debut in the 1960s with bit parts in television shows and films after being born in Detroit in January 1945.
For eight seasons, Selleck portrayed Thomas Magnum, a private detective stationed in Hawaii. He won a Primetime Emmy for best actor in a drama series for his performance in this role.
He went on to star in hit TV series like “The Closer” and “Friends.” He also has a starring role in the police drama “Blue Bloods.”
Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, and others share the spotlight with him on the show. The show has been on the air for 13 seasons and continues to be a huge hit with viewers.
Even though Selleck has had a successful career, it has the potential to be even greater. However, the actor strives to maintain a healthy work-life balance by giving equal attention to his personal life. This is why the actor left the 1987 series Magnum,PI.
The actor was not grateful for the attention he received from the show.
He enjoyed his work but occasionally felt uncomfortable with the spotlight it cast on him.
An old quote of his goes something like, “I knew intellectually what it would mean in terms of being a public person, but until you’ve lived it, there’s no way to understand it.”
The actor said he was exhausted “from it” and wanted to pursue other interests, so he decided to leave Magnum, PI.
After leaving the show in 1987, he wed Jillie Joan Mack, his second wife. In describing his second wife, he used phrases like “joie de vivre” and “effervescent quality.”
Mack was a former dancer and actress from England. After being married for a year, the couple decided to invest in a ranch in Ventura County. Former owners of the property include one Dean Martin. There are supposedly more than 1,500 trees on the land.
One of the couple’s friends noted that although she had given up her career, she seemed to be very content now that she was living on the ranch with her animals.
Selleck and Mack are both huge fans of the ranch. Before purchasing the ranch, Selleck realized he needed to recharge his batteries and find some privacy again.
The actor scarcely completed any projects throughout the year and people concerned about his career. However, he clarified that this was due solely to his disinterest in the available options.
The actor used the time alone to recharge while news outlets reported that his career was coming to an end. He said, “I quit Magnum to have a family. It took a long time to get off the train, but I try very hard to have balance, and this ranch has helped me do that.”
Selleck has been married to Mack for over 30 years, and they received their only child, a daughter called Hannah, in 1988. They thought their daughter would enjoy growing up on the ranch as well.
In order to foster his personal life, the actor put his marriage first.
He explained that he needed time away from Hollywood to concentrate on his family, and he confirmed that this had a positive effect on his marriage.
While he has found that taking things slowly at the ranch has improved his personal life, his relationship with his partner has suffered as a result.
Selleck is the only person who takes care of everything on the property, including the bushes and roads.
His avocado trees died because of the drought in California. In 2007, the actor said that he was having a lot of success with selling avocados, just a few years after saying that it was becoming increasingly difficult to make a living off avocados.
According to the Calleguas Municipal Water District, Selleck allegedly stole truckloads of water.
A large water tender truck was utilized to go to the hydrant and bring water back to his property, so it was said.
There were roughly 12 trips documented in about two years. It was unclear how much water was stolen because it was not known if any further trips were made that were not uncovered.
Authorities claimed they sent the actor two warning letters to stop stealing water in late 2013, but the actor continued to do it anyhow.
The actor was fined $21,000, which will go toward paying for the private investigation that was conducted against him as well as damages.
He was also forbidden to use water from the Calleguas Municipal Water District for his own domestic purposes.
