A lodge owner in Homer, Alaska, shared his unbelievable experience on Facebook. He caught a vibrant fish with striking colors – its skin had bright orange spots, and its gills shimmered in a Tiffany blue hue, giving it a futuristic, out-of-this-world look!
What’s even more shocking is that when he cut open the fish, the flesh inside was a clear, gemstone-like blue. It looked like something straight out of the movie Avatar! This rare fish is called a rock greenling, commonly found along the northern Pacific coast from California to Alaska. These fish eat marine worms, crustaceans, and small fish, and they have the unique ability to change their appearance based on their environment.
The owner was brave enough to cook and eat the fish, sharing that its blue meat slowly turned white when cooked, with a taste similar to trout. However, scientists still lack enough data to evaluate the mercury levels in this species, so it’s unclear if they are safe for human consumption. It’s probably best to avoid eating them, just in case!
Many people commented in amazement: “I never knew fish like this existed!” “I once went fishing with my dad, and he caught one of these too. I was stunned by the color difference inside and out!” “This is incredible! Mother Nature is truly amazing, creating fish that are so unbelievably beautiful.”
