Patricia Rashbrook, Britain’s oldest mother, wears her beautiful baby son inside to keep him warm in the winter. This shows that she is enjoying being a parent after a long time.
It caused a national discussion when it came out that JJ Farrant’s loving mother was actually 62 years old. He was born by elective cesarean in July.
Even though she has three grown children of her own, John Farrant, her second husband, who is 60 years old, had never been a father himself.
But Dr. Rashbrooks says that the couple’s choice to have JJ was not made on the spur of the moment, even though they really wanted to end their eight-year relationship with a child.
She says that the couple thought about it for months before choosing to move forward with the help of the controversial fertility specialist Professor Severino Antinori.
Sadly, their first four IVF tries failed, so when Dr. Rashbrook finally got pregnant with JJ, they were so happy that they couldn’t contain their joy, even when the public learned about her condition.
As expected, the couple was accused of being selfish. However, Dr. Rashbrook, who marked her 63rd birthday in September, is sure that those who have criticized her choice are simply ignorant.
“We would not have gone ahead if we’d felt we would not be good enough parents,” she adds.
“We are both extremely healthy and I have always looked and felt very young, but nevertheless we have younger friends with children who have agreed to act as surrogate parents should anything happen to us.
“What is important in parenting is not how old you are but whether you are meeting all the child’s needs and we are very confident about doing that.”
They carefully carried their baby son in his car seat as they left their home in Lewes, East Sussex, for a day trip. It was clear that the couple has never been happier as they get ready for their first Christmas as a family.
