A Chick-fil-A delivery driver in metro Atlanta fought for his life when an armed robber broke into the restaurant earlier this month. The struggle was captured on surveillance video.
Around 4:30 a.m. on July 1, officers responded to a robbery call from the Chick-fil-A at 5075 Stone Mountain Highway. The delivery driver reported that the suspect smashed the drive-thru window with a rock and entered the kitchen, brandishing a gun and threatening to kill him if he didn’t open the safe.
Unable to provide the safe’s combination, the employee fought back. Shocking surveillance footage shows the two men struggling over the gun for several minutes.
During the altercation, the Chick-fil-A worker managed to pull off the suspect’s mask, and the robber eventually fled through an exit door before police arrived.
Investigators tracked a vehicle they believed was used by the suspect, leading them to identify 51-year-old Tommie Lee Williams.
Williams faces multiple charges, including armed robbery, aggravated assault, second-degree burglary, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and second-degree criminal damage to property. He was arrested on July 31 with help from the U.S. Marshals and Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department.
