Matthew Perry’s official death certificate has appeared online less than two weeks after the beloved actor’s tragic passing.
Perry was found dead of an apparent drowning in a hot tub at his home in LA in late October, prompting an outpour of grief from the entertainment industry and beyond.
The actor, who shot to worldwide fame thanks to his portrayal of Chandler Bing in the massively successful sitcom Friends, was buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles this past weekend – his Friends co-stars were all in attendance.
Much has been rumored since the 54-year-old’s sudden passing, with all manner of speculation having surfaced as to Perry’s cause of death.
Perry struggled with both drug and alcohol addiction throughout his life, but in later years, he devoted his time to helping others. In fact, he didn’t want to only be remembered for his acting or role on Friends, but rather how he helped others in their battles with addiction.
Word of the star’s death was first reported by TMZ, who claimed that first responders had rushed to Perry’s property after a call for cardiac arrest.
The actor had battled his fair share of personal demons over the years, but reports made it clear that there were no drugs found at the scene, nor did authorities suspect foul play.
Perry had been reportedly playing pickleball on the day of his death, before returning home and sending his assistant out on an errand. Said assistant returned later to find Perry submerged in his hot tub.
Perry’s official death certificate was reportedly obtained by The Blast earlier this week, and it confirms rumors suggesting that his ’cause of death’ would be deferred were true.
Reports have insisted that Perry’s toxicology report is still being processed, and that it will be weeks before it is ready. Initial tests showed that there was no meth or fentanyl in Perry’s system at the time of his death, but more in-depth testing needs to be done to rule out the potential presence of other drugs.

Close friends of Perry have stated that the actor was clean and sober prior to his death, while Perry himself had showed a clear willingness to turn his life around in recent years.
In 2022, Perry released his memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, speaking openly within its pages about his struggles with addiction.
I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we’re going to miss Matthew Perry enormously. Thanks for all the memories!
