American actor, entertainer, and comedian Dick Van Dyke has pulled out of his highly anticipated appearance at the FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention, leaving fans concerned and praying.
At 98 years old, Dick Van Dyke is still active in the entertainment industry. It’s no wonder his decision to skip the FanX Salt Lake Comic Convention, scheduled for September 26 to 28, 2024, has drawn concern from fans.
FanX confirmed the news on September 21 through a statement on social media and their website.
“We are sorry to announce that Dick Van Dyke is not able to travel to FanX. He expresses his appreciation to all of those who support him, but at almost 99 years of age, traveling and interacting with thousands of people is more than he is able to do at this time,” the statement read.

The message highlighted that even as Van Dyke remains adored by fans, the physical demands of public appearances have become too challenging for the iconic entertainer.
As soon as the news spread, fans took to social media, offering their thoughts and prayers for the cherished actor. Many understood the toll that public engagements might take on someone nearing their 99th birthday, but that didn’t stop them from expressing concern and affection.
Just days after the Emmy Awards, Van Dyke was spotted in Malibu, California, running errands with the assistance of a helper.

One fan wrote, “Prayers are sent for him! God bless him!” echoing the sentiment of thousands who hoped for his well-being. Another expressed similar love, saying, “I love this man and pray that he lives for years to come. His true fans will understand that he needs to take good care of himself at his age.”
Other fans shared their worries more openly. “I hope he is alright. I have always loved him. He is a great human being,” one comment read. Another posted, “He may have taken a turn. He’s very old. God bless him.”
Some fans recalled seeing Van Dyke moving and dancing not long ago, which added to their surprise at the news. One wrote, “Oh no! He was just out there recently dancing and moving and grooving. Thoughts and prayers to him,” while another simply shared their initial fear, “I got scared for a second.”
For others, the reality of his age seemed to settle in with a touch of resignation, “He’s old and probably tired. Leave him alone.” There were also brief but heartfelt comments like “Prayers” and “Always loved this Legend!!! Glad he is still with us!!!” that further showcased how deeply Van Dyke’s fans care for him.
The FanX cancellation wasn’t the only public event Van Dyke recently missed. The 76th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, held on September 15, 2024, had also planned to feature Van Dyke as a presenter, but the legendary entertainer was notably absent.
His absence at such a prestigious event, where he was set to be one of the highlights, caused additional concern among fans and industry insiders. Just days after the Emmy Awards, Van Dyke was spotted in Malibu, California, running errands with the assistance of a helper.
As he walked to his car using a cane, a paparazzo approached him and asked how he was doing. Ever the charmer, Van Dyke responded with his usual humor, smiling as he said, “I’m pretty old.”
When asked about his plans for his upcoming birthday on December 13, Van Dyke gave a lighthearted response, saying, “Just praying that I make it.” While his words were spoken with a smile, they struck a chord with fans who are already worried about his health.
Dick Van Dyke’s lighthearted comment about praying to make it to his 99th birthday reflects the candid and playful nature he’s always been known for, even when speaking about something as personal as his health.
As his December 13 milestone draws near, fans continue to rally around him with prayers and positive messages, hoping he remains healthy and happy for more years.
