Following actress Nicola Peltz Beckham opening up about the loss of her dog Nala, she has been inundated with supportive messages from people who claim to have gone through a similar experience.
Nicola is suing dog groomers Houndspa LLC, accusing them of ‘intentional and malicious abuse’ over the death of her pet chihuahua, Nala.
Nicola’s lawsuit states that Nala died a ‘mere two hours’ after being in their care.
Actress Nicola, who is married to Brooklyn Beckham, shared a post on Instagram on 16 June that shared the sad news that Nala had died the day before.
She wrote: “I can’t even find the words to describe my heartbreak on so many levels. nala was perfectly healthy when she went to the groomers yesterday but came out hyperventilating and couldn’t catch her breath. we rushed her to the vet and she passed hours later.”

As a result of Nicola sharing the news online, many dog owners have come forward on the Instagram post, which details her heartbreak, to share stories of their own.
One person wrote: “This is not uncommon at all. Happened to my neighbour, groomers who rush and don’t care will manhandle the dog on the neck etc and it will come out and die. These people should really go to jail. I’d never use a groomer unless I was present 100% of the time with my dog in sight.”
Another said: “I’m so sorry. Something similar happened with my Chihuahua too, at the vet of all places. The guilt and bereavement and constant replaying in my head of the series of events still haunts me to this day.”

The lawsuit shows that Nicola intends to take action against Houndspa LLC as well as the owner Deborah Gittleman and groomer Jony Ceballos.
It includes allegations that ‘upon information and belief, while grooming Nala, Ceballos not only failed to properly care for her, but also Ceballos violently mistreated and/or intentionally abused the dog, with utter callous disregard for her safety, health and well-being’.
Nicola didn’t hold back when directly accusing Ceballos of previous animal mistreatment.
The filing added: “Nicola was shocked as she had not known nor understood that Ceballos was still employed by and being used by HoundSpa as a groomer – even after receiving complaints of mistreatment during his mobile grooming.”

It further stated that when Ceballos was confronted about Nala’s treatment, ‘his story kept changing about what happened and what he did’.
The lawsuit continues: “Gittleman never should have allowed Ceballos to continue grooming pets in a van without video monitoring cameras after he received complaints of mistreating animals.”
