A man named David Fine from Plainville, Massachusetts, has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and knows he doesn’t have much time left. But his biggest worry is not for himself; it’s for his beloved dog, Babs, who will be left without a home when David is gone.

David, 63, rescued Babs, a Shar-Pei/Boxer mix, from a shelter 10 years ago. Since then, they have been inseparable companions.

Now, as David faces the end of his life, his dying wish is to find a perfect home for Babs. He wants to ensure that his sweet dog is taken care of and loved after he passes away.

David Fine, from Plainville, Massachusetts, has faced many health challenges. He was treated for leukemia and diagnosed with vascular disease. Recently, he received the heartbreaking news that he has stage 4 lung cancer.

David decided not to go through with treatments for his lung cancer because, while they might have given him a bit more time, they would have made his life much harder.

Five months ago, doctors told David he only had six months left to live. Knowing his time is short, David has one main goal: to find a new home for his beloved dog, Babs. He wants to make sure she is cared for and loved after he is gone.

“I had told myself I was never gonna get another pet because it breaks my heart to lose them,” David told WJAR. “Unfortunately, she’s going to outlive me this time.”

For David Fine, his loyal dog Babs is the most important thing in his life since he doesn’t have children. “It’s like trying to find a home for your child,” he said.

“She is the most important thing at this point. My fate is sealed but hers is not.”

David wants to see Babs settle into a new home while he is still alive. When he enters hospice care, he plans to give Babs to her new family. Although giving up his dog is heartbreaking, David will “rest at peace” knowing she’s safe and secure.

David is getting help from animal rescuer Jennie Mann. She posted about David’s situation on social media and is screening potential new homes for Babs. Jennie described David as a “sweet kind-hearted man” and said that finding a home for Babs is his “dying wish.”

“His dog is his life,” Jennie wrote in a Facebook post. “He said he can’t be laid to rest until he knows his baby will be taken care of when he is gone.”

David hopes to find someone who will love Babs as much as he does. He wants her to understand he didn’t abandon her and that he has passed away. He wants her to feel comfortable in her new home so she doesn’t feel like she’s living with a stranger.

Jennie wrote that Babs is a loving and affectionate dog with no behavioral issues. However, Babs doesn’t get along with other dogs and needs to be the only pet in the household.

On May 10, Jennie gave an update saying she has been meeting with people interested in adopting Babs. Unfortunately, many of them already have pets or live too far away, so the search continues.

The goal is to find a perfect home for Babs before David’s time runs out.

This is a sad story, but it’s touching to see that David’s main concern in his final days is for his beloved dog 😢❤️. We hope that they find a perfect home for Babs very soon!
