Tucker Carlson, a former Fox News star who now hosts a show viewers can watch on the social media platform X, recently drew criticism for interviewing a guest who called British Prime Minister Winston Churchill the “chief villain” of World War II.
A White House spokesperson called the Sept. 2 interview “Nazi propaganda.”
X owner Elon Musk, who initially promoted the interview, deleted his X post that called it “very interesting” and “worth watching.”
But Musk didn’t say he would fund a “new anti-woke show” featuring Carlson, as a recent Facebook post claimed.
“Elon Musk to fund new anti-woke show featuring Tucker Carlson: ‘We need more journalists like Tucker Carlson and less like Rachel Maddow,’” the Sept. 6 post said.
This post was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its News Feed. (Read more about our partnership with Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads.)
This claim originated Sept. 5 on SpaceX Fanclub, a self-described satire page.
SpaceX Fanclub notes on its Facebook page that “nothing on this page is real.”
The SpaceX Fanclub post included in the comments a link to a blog post claiming the new show will be called “Truth Unleashed.” This post also had a satire label, and we found no evidence, such as credible news coverage, that Musk or Carlson announced any such show.
The Facebook post sharing the Carlson claim does not say that it’s satire.
We rate claims Musk said he was funding a new “anti-woke” show featuring Carlson False.
