Emma Stone has had a heartwarming reaction to a reporter addressing her by her real name.

Despite being one of the most recognizable faces – and names – in the world, it would seem that many of us don’t know the 35-year-old actress as well as we perhaps thought.

After leading roles in blockbusters like the Amazing Spider-Man movies, La La Land, and Cruella, the American star finally won her first Best Actress Oscar earlier this year for her performance in 2023’s Poor Things.

However, despite all her success, Stone revealed back in April that she just wants one thing: To be called by her real name.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Stone said: “I would like to be Emily, that would be so nice. ” she candidly stated, shedding light on her personal preference for her well-known stage name.

Addressing how she had to change her name when signing up to SAG-AFTRA, the star said: “Then I freaked out a couple of years ago. For some reason, I was like, I can’t do it anymore. Just call me Emily.”

However, despite her preference for Emily, Stone clarified that she wouldn’t correct fans who approach her as Emma.

Now, her wish has come true.

On Saturday (May 18), Stone appeared on a panel at the Festival de Cannes for a press conference on her new movie, Kinds of Kindness.

During the Q&A, a reporter from Kazakhstan’s 98 Magazine addressed her as “Emily”, as the panel’s MC, Didier Allouch, seemingly attempted to correct the journalist by simply telling him: “Emma”. (Check it out below, the moment comes at around 21 minutes.)

However, Stone swiftly jumped in with a smile on her face and re-corrected Allouch, telling the room: “My name is Emily, thank you,” the actress said with a laugh.

“Very nice,” she added.

The thoughtful moment from the reporter sparks laughter and applause from the room, as Stone continued beaming.

This is not the first time Stone has commented on her real name.

Reflecting on her childhood, Stone shared a nostalgic anecdote about her early love for the Spice Girls, particularly Emma Lee Bunton, also known as Baby Spice.

“Growing up, I was super blonde, and my real name is Emily, but I wanted to be called Emma because of Baby Spice, and guess what? Now I am,” she revealed during an episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in 2018.

While clarifying that her name change wasn’t solely inspired by the Spice Girl, Stone recalled how she requested her teacher to call her Emma on the first day of second grade.

Now you can see how happy it makes her, let’s try and remember that her name is Emily!
