Parks and Rec fans reckon a classic Paul Rudd scene eerily predicted a frustrating exchange between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris during the Presidential debate.
Presidential candidates Trump and Harris faced off for the first time yesterday (September 10) in the run-up to the 2024 election, which will see voters go to the polls on November 5.
As expected it got pretty heated, and of course abortion rights were debated – which was always going to happen since the US Supreme Court overruled the constitutional right for women to have an abortion.
You’ve probably heard of Roe v Wade, but if you haven’t I’ll quickly brief you.
In 1973, a historic decision was passed in the same court it was eventually ousted, almost 50 years later.
It meant that women in all walks of life nationwide had the constitutional right to have an abortion.
But in one 45th President Trump’s final moves in charge, he nominated three of the justices in the Supreme Court that voted to void abortion rights.

Anyway, the former president and current Vice-President Harris debated at length, and of course it got a bit out of hand with Republican Trump falsely claiming the Democrats would abort babies in the ‘ninth month’ and even ‘after birth’.
Harris is in favour of vetoing the 2022 Roe v Wade decision, while where Trump stands is a bit foggier – which led to Reddit users hilariously comparing the debate to a Parks and Recreation episode that aired back in 2012, starring Paul Rudd as Bobby Newport – who has been likened to the former President.
Speaking on Tuesday (September 10), he said when asked would he veto a ban: “I’m not signing a ban. And there’s no reason to sign a ban. Because we’ve gotten what everybody wanted.
“Democrats, Republicans and everybody else and every legal scholar wanted it to be brought back into the states. And the states are voting. And it may take a little time, but for 52 years this issue has torn our country apart.”

Later adding: “And as far as the abortion ban, no, I’m not in favor of abortion ban. But it doesn’t matter because this issue has now been taken over by the states.”
A meme has now gone viral of the episode with the fictional character Newport responding to his views on abortion, saying: “I guess my thoughts on abortion are…
“You know, let’s just all have a good time.”
Taking to the social media platform, one user wrote: “Yes and it’s both hilarious and the saddest thing I’ve ever seen.”
It was a tough watch and I’m not sure we learned too much, although I will agree it was rather sad.
