Angelina Jolie Reveals One of Her Insecurities That Affected Her Role as Opera Diva Maria Callas
Angelina Jolie has opened up about an insecurity that affected her performance as the opera diva Maria Callas. She felt self-conscious about singing because a former partner instilled in her a complex about her own voice. This ex-partner criticized Jolie’s singing. We suggest Angie check out a selection of films about abusers to avoid such situations in the future. Jolie did not name the person who criticized her.
“There was a man in my life who wasn’t very supportive of my singing. I was dating him. And so I ended up thinking that I really couldn’t sing. I had trained in drama school, so it was strange that it affected me at all. I just seemed to adapt to that person’s opinion,” the actress revealed.
Jolie shared that it took her a long time to start singing again. The role of Callas was challenging for her: she spent months working on her vocal technique and also took Italian lessons. To sing like Maria, Angie had to train her voice.
“I tried to be precise,” Jolie added.
Angelina Jolie portrayed the legendary opera singer Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín’s biopic (“Jackie,” “Spencer”). After the screening, the actress received a thrilling ten-minute standing ovation.
