Gerry Turner, aged 74, and Theresa Nist, aged 70, have reached a mutual decision to end their marriage.
The couple, whose love story blossomed on the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor, revealed their separation to Juju Chang on Good Morning America.
“Theresa and I have had numerous heartfelt conversations, carefully examining our circumstances and living arrangements, leading us to the mutual conclusion that it’s time for us to part ways,” Turner shared with Chang.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the love and support from viewers of The Golden Bachelor. We hope that our decision won’t alter the hope it brought to so many,” Nist added.
Turner proposed to Nist during the season finale of The Golden Bachelor, and they tied the knot in a grand ceremony at the beginning of the year.
Initially, Turner and Nist believed they were fully committed to each other, despite the geographical distance between them—Turner residing in Indiana and Nist in New Jersey. However, they later realized their unwavering dedication to their respective families.
“We explored various options, from South Carolina to New Jersey, but never reached a definitive decision,” Turner explained.
“Our discussions emphasized our profound commitment to our families. Ultimately, we both agree that living apart is the best path to individual happiness,” Turner continued.
Despite their decision to part ways, Turner and Nist remain nostalgic about the cherished memories they created together.
“I still hold immense love for Theresa. There’s no doubt in my mind; I continue to support her every day,” Turner expressed.
“I still love him,” Nist echoed.
