Outlandish style has marked the VMAs from their inception in 1984, when Madonna donned a corseted wedding dress with a “Boy Toy” belt, and it continued in 2010 with Lady Gaga’s iconic meat dress.
This year has also seen some dubious design choices, like deconstructed wedding dresses and a Power Rangers-inspired style.

The Ridiculousness alum wore a sexy blouse with silver hearts on her nipples and a matching miniskirt. She chose a white pantyhose under her skirt, a traditional detail that contrasted with the rest of the outfit.
Her boyfriend, Dom Fenison, too left nothing to the imagination, arriving shirtless in a white vest and black leather leggings.

Katy earned the renowned Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award, which recognized her career and contributions to the music business.
She also sang a medley of her most popular songs, including California Girls, Teenage Dream, I Kissed a Girl, and Firework.
However, her ripped red carpet outfit was not as memorable as her performance, with many remarking that the singer appeared to have survived being cast away just the day before the ceremony.
