Cyclist Andre Drege’s death happened during the Tour of Austria. On the fourth stage of the race, the 25-year-old mountain biker from his home country, Team Coop-Repsol, lost control on a descent. Ineos Grenadiers rider Filippo Ganna won the race, but the podiums and awards ceremonies had to be canceled because of what happened. After a successful season on the road, Drege was seen as a possible future professional tour musician. Immediately after the sad news of his death spread through the sport, tributes poured in.
“A loss felt in the entire cycling community,” was tweeted by Americans working on the EF Education–EasyPost team. “Our sympathies are with the teammates, friends, and family of André Drege. André, good bye.
“We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of our fellow colleague cyclist André Drege,” the Belgian team Intermarche-Wanty said. He was in for a fantastic career.

“The UCI is devastated to learn of the death of professional cyclist André Drege at the Tour of Austria,” the United Cyclists Internationale (UCI) said in a statement.
“His teammates, friends, and family are in our thoughts and prayers.”
In the meantime, “We’re shocked and heartbroken by the terrible news from the Tour of Austria,” expressed the Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team.
