I never imagined the worst day of my life would start with such anticipation. As I pulled up to the hotel with my mistress, the adrenaline was already coursing through my veins. Yet, my heart sank when I saw my father-in-law’s car parked right at the entrance. Richard’s car, unmistakable with its personalized license plate, stood as an ominous warning. Panic set in immediately. My legs trembled, and I felt a cold sweat break out across my forehead. If Richard saw me, everything would be over. My marriage, my reputation, everything.

A Close Call
I turned to my mistress, explaining in hushed, frantic tones that we couldn’t go through with our plan today. She looked at me with disbelief and then anger. “What do you mean, we can’t? We’re already here!” she hissed. But I couldn’t get my legs to move, paralyzed by the fear of being caught. She continued to press me, suggesting we find another place, but I was adamant. “No, I can’t today,” I insisted, my voice shaking.

Her response was as expected. She stormed out of the car, slamming the door with a force that seemed to reverberate through my entire being. She shouted a string of expletives at me, but I was too consumed with worry about Richard. My eyes were glued to the hotel entrance, scanning for any sign of him.

The Unexpected Visit
The next day, just as I was beginning to believe I had narrowly avoided a catastrophe, the doorbell rang. My wife, still in her morning robe, opened the door. “OOOH DADDY, WHAT A SURPRISE… YOU NEVER COME HERE,” she exclaimed, her voice filled with genuine surprise and joy. I froze, the sound of her words sending a chill down my spine.

Richard stood there, a smile on his face, holding a small bag. My mind raced. Had he seen me? Was he here to confront me? I couldn’t bear the thought of what might happen next. I plastered a fake smile on my face and joined my wife at the door. “Richard, what brings you here?” I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

The Shocking Revelation
Richard entered the house, and I felt like a prisoner walking towards his execution. He took a seat at the kitchen table, and my wife quickly prepared some coffee. “I just thought I’d drop by and see how you both are doing,” Richard said, his eyes locking onto mine. The tension in the room was palpable.
