True friendship often involves offering constructive criticism, even when it comes to relationships.
While many have celebrated Jennifer Lopez reuniting with Ben Affleck, her friend Jane Fonda has expressed some reservations. At 86 years old, the actress hasn’t hesitated to share her thoughts on Lopez’s reconciliation with Affleck.
Their unexpected friendship blossomed during the filming of the 2005 movie Monster-in-Law, and they’ve remained close ever since. Lopez even enlisted Fonda to appear in her latest documentary: This Is Me Now: A Love Story.
In the documentary, Fonda candidly shared her concerns about Lopez and Affleck.
“I feel a personal investment in you and Ben, and I genuinely hope it works out,” Fonda told Lopez, as reported by Variety. “However, I worry that it feels more like you’re trying to prove something instead of just living it. It seems like every photo is of you two kissing or hugging.”
Lopez chuckled at the remark, dismissing it as simply “living our life.”
Fonda also voiced apprehension after seeing Affleck’s demeanor at the 2023 Grammys, admitting she felt “real scared.”
“All that drama at the Grammys, and he looked unhappy. I was like, ‘Oh my God, what’s going on?’” she shared.
Lopez reassured Fonda that there was nothing amiss in their relationship; Affleck was simply feeling the pressure of being in the public eye.
Despite her reservations, Fonda expressed her belief that “everyone in the entire world is rooting for this relationship and this love,” emphasizing the importance of how the couple portrays their relationship.
“It’s crucial to handle it in a way that doesn’t invite excessive attention, which could lead to criticism or resentment,” Fonda concluded.
