Losing a loved one is never easy. The grief can consume those experiencing it. Recently, the Dukes of Hazard star, John Schneider, had to say goodbye to his beloved wife. Alicia Allain Schneider, the love of his wife, passed away from breast cancer. Now, John has opened up about the lie he had to tell his wife right before she passed. A heartwrenching moment indeed.
John Schneider Lied to His Dying Wife
As many people already know, Alicia Allain Scheider, wife of the Dukes of Hazard star John Schneider, recently passed away. Even though the reason and cause of her death are still unofficially announced, it is suspected that her breast cancer took a turn for the worse. Alicia had been in a hospice and John can still remember his last moment with his beloved wife vividly.
In a candid interview with People, he opened up about a lie he told her right before she died. “I of course told her it was OK,” he said in the interview. “‘If you’re tired, if you want to go see your grandma, you want to go see your grandpa, if you want to go, then it’s OK. You go.’ And that was all the truth. But then I lied, because I said, ‘Don’t worry about me; I’ll be OK.’” He added while crying, “That was a lie I had to tell, but she knew it. OK is a long way away.”
John Scheider says he believes he will spend eternity with Alicia. “The last thing I said to her was, ‘I love you desperately, and I’ve got multiple sets of very long-term plans for you,’” he said. “And that’s true, because eternity’s a very long time, and I believe it. I’m counting on it.”
He Announced her Death on Social Media
In a tear-jerking post, John Schneider announced Alicia’s death on his social media accounts. On Facebook, he wrote: “My beautiful Smile is pain-free, living in her new body alongside Jesus,” he wrote. “Please respect our privacy during this time of grief. Please do not ask any questions.”
“This is a time of unimaginable sorrow for me,” John Schneider wrote in another post the next day. “Grief is much too small a word. I’ve heard it said that ‘with great love comes great sorrow.’ I had no idea what that meant until now. Alicia was the fuel that ran my biggest dreams. The inspiration behind every creative thought. The very fabric of my soul. The glue that held me together.”
Alicia and John Schneider
John Schneider is best known for his iconic role as Bo Duke in the classic TV series “The Dukes of Hazzard,” which aired from 1979 to 1985. Born on April 8, 1960, in Mount Kisco, New York, Schneider’s rugged good looks and charismatic charm made him a household name during the show’s run. However, it wasn’t just his on-screen fame that defined his life. In 1993, Schneider met Alicia Allain, who would go on to become his beloved wife.
Alicia’s obituary described a woman who was generous beyond measure. She always put other people before her own needs. She was a deeply loving and caring person. This reflected the family life she had with John. Though she and John Schneider never had kids of their own, they had a strong family bond. John helped raise the children of his former wife, Elly Castle, even though they were fathered by her ex-husband. John raised them as if they were his own. He then had his own child with Elly before they got divorced. When Alicia and John Schneider got married, they raised both John’s kids and Alicia’s daughter, Jessica Ann, together.
Alicia’s obituary read, “Alicia was a force that inspired others, she was kind and generous to all she met,” her obituary read. “She always put herself last, she was very protective of her parents. And she was a mama bear that protected all her cubs. She was a fighter until the end. Alicia will be missed mighty.”
