A tragic car crash has taken the lives of a New York mother and her son. Tiffany Ferrell and her 18-year-old son Colin Ferrell were killed in a head-on collision on their way home from a college orientation on Friday, July 19, 2024.
According to authorities and family friends, another vehicle swerved into their lane, causing the car crash. Colin was driving while his mother was in the passenger seat. The other driver, 36-year-old Steven Mallory, also died at the scene.
Mallory, who was a father, reportedly suffered a medical emergency that led up to the crash, according to a statement written by a family friend on a fundraising page. However, investigators have not yet confirmed that detail. A spokesperson for the state police said that authorities need to investigate more before they can provide further details.
A GoFundMe for Tiffany and Colin Ferrell spoke more about the mother-son duo. “Tiffany Ferrell has the largest heart and has always been there for everyone. She was full of life and could make anyone smile and laugh. She had so much love to give,” the post reads. “Her son Colin was the most likable and respectful person you would ever meet. He would be anyone’s friend and always willing to lend a helping hand.”
Colin Ferrell had just graduated Union-Endicott High School and his mother was closely involved in the school system, according to school leaders. “Colin was a kind and compassionate student who loved playing baseball, and Tiffany was a dedicated volunteer for the district, involved in many school and community-related endeavors,” Superintendent Nicole Wolfe and high school Principal Steven DiStefano said. The mother and son leave behind Tiffany’s husband and Colin’s father, Dan, and the teen’s two siblings.
