After all the drama surrounding this year’s Olympic Games, including Simone Biles’ feud with her former teammate MyKayla Skinner and the gender row surrounding professional Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, it’s nice to see some light-hearted good vibes surrounding Canadian hammer-thrower Ethan Katzberg.
Katzberg beat Hungary’s Bence Halasz, who placed silver, and Ukraine’s Mykhaylo Kokhan, who took home the bronze to secure himself a gold medal in Paris.
Despite the athlete making history as the youngest-ever hammer throw Olympic champion to earn a gold medal in the event and becoming Canada’s first Olympic hammer throw gold medalist, Katzberg became a hot talking point online for his appearance.

“Ethan Katzberg wins a gold medal for his pirate moustache and his epic flow. Wait, I’m being told he throws his hammer around too. No kidding with that kind of flow,” wrote one user, while another added: “Ethan Katzberg just threw the longest opening hammer throw of anyone in the first round of the final, by about 20 feet. Thor stuff. Holy Katz.”
A third chimed in writing: “Not sure how I will handle the Summer Olympics ending. Today was enthralling watching the hammer throw and the absolutely dominant Ethan Katzberg. I didn’t know his name before today and now I will never forget watching what he did. This is what sport is all about.”
And this user simply tweeted: “Ethan Katzberg aka Canadian Thor.”

With all the talk surrounding his appearance, as well as his massive win, Dan Williams, an interviewer for CGTN questioned whether the star would be making his big screen debut any time soon.
“What do you make of that? Is this a new thing now?” Williams asked to which the 22-year-old responded: “It’s great to see that people are connecting me with so many people I would never think about and the Australian one is new, but that’s great…
“I’m happy to see people gathering interest in me and hammer throwing and being able to make those connections,” he added.
“So you don’t expect a call from Hollywood any time soon? You know, ‘We need a new Thor, Chris Hemsworth can’t do it?'” Williams questioned.
“They haven’t seen my acting skills yet so I don’t know,” the star replied, laughing.
