Oprah Winfrey is not shy about being a billionaire. Like most billionaires in America, she has access to things that everyday people simply will never know or see for themselves. However, Oprah has attracted the ire of outspoken radio talk show host Howard Stern who shared his criticism of Oprah Winfrey during an episode of The Howard Stern Shown on Monday with Stern claiming that Oprah “loves showing off” her massive amount of wealth and is “not embarrassed by” doing it in the very least.
In his show, the 68-year-old Stern told co-host 70-year-old Robin Quivers, “It’s mind-blowing when you follow her on Instagram.”
Stern added, “You gotta be a little self-aware and know that there are people struggling out there… Oprah’s not embarrassed by her wealth at all.”
Stern does not like seeing Oprah Winfrey flaunting her extravagant wealth on social media. And when the media mogul shares photos from her lavish lifestyle, Stern feels a certain way about it. He said that when you follow Oprah on Instagram and other social media networks, you “see her estates, her gardens, the people who service her.”
Robin replied, “Service her? She’s not a car.”
Stern doubled down on his statement, adding: “Well, she kind of is. She’s got servants and like people cooking.
Stern, who is rich himself, claims that Oprah “knows” how to look as rich as possible and “likes” to show off her access to wealth with her millions of fans on social media, who also delight in seeing what Oprah has been up to during her time between engagements.
“Which is something I’m not comfortable with,” he added. “I don’t think that people should show off their wealth.”
Robin defended Oprah, saying: “Oprah’s just showing you her life. She’s not showing off.”
However, Stern believed that he was right and that Oprah was wrong for showing her fans how wealthy she really was. He claimed that her social media posts lacked self-awareness and that Oprah was offending poor people across America by showing them how much money she really has access to on a regular basis.
“You got to be a little self-aware and know that there are people struggling out there, Robin. You got to. You got to kind of think about people who don’t have — to eat. You know what I’m saying? I mean, come on. You got to be a little bit aware of this.”
Robin, who continued her defense of Oprah, replied, “Well if you don’t show your wealth, are they getting fed?”
Stern was particularly offended by Oprah’s lavish garden, which makes regular appearances on her Instagram account.
“No, they are not. But I make a good living, and I’m having trouble watching Oprah. I go, wow. Look what’s going on over there? Her estate is unbelievable. When she goes shopping, she goes shopping in her backyard cause everything is growing back there. There’s a farm back there.”
Do you think Oprah flaunts her wealth too much?
