Harry and Meghan’s recent visit to Nigeria was a big hit. Even though some people in the UK weren’t happy about it, they were warmly welcomed in Nigeria. It shows that people there still like them, even though they’re not part of the royal family anymore.
While Harry and Meghan had a great time, some royal family members, like Prince William, Kate Middleton, and King Charles, were reportedly angry about their trip. But it seems like Harry and Meghan might go on more trips like this in the future, even though they’re not royals anymore.
Harry and Meghan’s kids, Archie and Lilibet, are far away from their royal family in the UK. Harry doesn’t seem eager to bring them to visit. Soon, Archie and Lilibet might start doing public stuff because their parents have big plans for them.
When Harry and Meghan left the royal family, things changed a lot. Now, it’s not just about them but also about Archie and Lilibet. Archie was born in the UK, but Lilibet was born in California.
They live in a big house called “Fort Knox,” where famous people like Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah Winfrey are their neighbors. Even though Harry and Meghan are busy with lots of projects, like Netflix shows and Meghan’s new brand, their kids are always their main focus.
Leaving the royal family meant losing some perks, like their UK home, Frogmore Cottage. But they still have their royal titles.
Some members of the royal family, like King Charles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton, were mad about things Harry and Meghan said about royal life. People have different opinions about them, and last year, there was another big controversy involving them.
Harry and Meghan shared big news on March 9, 2023. They said that Lilibet had her christening, and the Archbishop of Los Angeles did it. Now, her official title is Princess Lilibet Diana, and her brother, Archie, is Prince Archie. Harry and Meghan believe these titles are their “birthright.”
The christening happened at the Sussexes’ home in Montecito, with about 20 to 30 people there.
A spokesperson for the couple said, “The children’s titles have been a birthright since their grandfather became monarch. This matter has been settled for some time in alignment with Buckingham Palace.”
People were confused because it took a while for Archie and Lilibet to get these titles. Meghan talked about it during the Oprah interview in 2021. She said, “They were saying they didn’t want [Archie] to be a prince or princess, not knowing what the gender would be, which would be different from protocol.”
Harry and Meghan wanted their children to have their birthrights. But when Archie and Lilibet grow up, they can choose whether to use their titles or not.
Archie and Lilibet probably won’t use their titles every day. They’ll likely use them only for formal occasions.
Having royal titles might not be all good for Archie and Lilibet, says royal expert Angela Levin. She thinks it could make life harder for them.
Levin wrote on Sky that Lilibet now has a big responsibility because of her parents’ choice. “It will take a long time for little Lilibet to realize the extent of the burden her parents have placed on her young shoulders,” Levin said.
Giving their daughter a princess title means Harry and Meghan have tied her to the British Royal Family, the same family they criticized for many years. “Why on earth would you want your daughter to experience such anguish?” Levin asked. She thinks Lilibet’s life will be tougher because of her princess title.
“Little girls love being princesses at parties, but if Lilibet is the only real princess in her class, it could make other kids jealous,” Levin added. She believes this could cause problems that could easily be avoided.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to leave their royal duties behind. But recently, they went on what some people saw as a “royal” trip. They spent three days in Nigeria to support the Invictus Games.
When they arrived in Abuja, Nigeria, they were greeted by a big crowd. They smiled and took selfies with people. Their goal was to talk about mental health issues for young people affected by conflicts. They visited the Lightway Academy, which helps girls affected by conflicts in Nigeria. This school gets support from Harry and Meghan’s Archewell Foundation.
During their visit, Harry and Meghan also met with injured soldiers and their families. The three-day trip was a big success. Harry and Meghan have faced criticism in the past, especially because of things they said about the royal family. But now, Meghan Markle seems to be getting better press.
However, not everyone in the UK is happy about their Nigeria visit. According to a source in the Mirror, Prince William and Kate Middleton are “furious” about it.
Before the trip, Harry and Meghan got criticized because it seemed like an unofficial royal tour. Some people thought it was damaging the royal family’s relationship with the Commonwealth.
Royal expert Tom Bower thinks Harry and Meghan are using their royal status to their advantage.
Author Phil Dampier finds the Nigeria visit ironic because Harry and Meghan previously criticized the Commonwealth.
“It’s ironic that the late Queen wanted Harry and Meghan to very much be her ambassadors throughout the Commonwealth and spread goodwill among its fifty or so nations, but they didn’t want to do it as royals,” Dampier told the Daily Mail.
Prince William and Kate Middleton are very busy right now. But they’re not happy about Harry and Meghan’s trip to Nigeria. Royal expert Tom Quinn said they are “furious” about it.
Quinn said Prince William is really mad and wants to stop this from happening again. He also said Prince Charles is angrier than ever before. William is upset because people in Nigeria treated Harry and Meghan like they were on an official royal visit.
“It’s like Harry and Meghan are doing their own thing—they went to Nigeria like it was an official royal tour. William and Charles are worried and wondering how to control this situation,” Quinn said.
He also said that Harry and Meghan were treated like they were still working royals during their visit to Nigeria.
Tom Quinn said that the speeches Harry and Meghan gave in Africa made it seem like they were still working as royals.
“For Charles and William, it feels like Meghan and Harry are saying, ‘We don’t need your permission to be working royals – we will do it on our own terms whenever and wherever we like,’” Quinn told the Mirror.
Harry and Meghan have said many times that they want a more private life, especially for their kids. Prince William and Kate Middleton’s kids, like Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, are starting to go to public events. But Archie and Lilibet can choose what they want to do.
Now, Harry and Meghan might start bringing Archie and Lilibet with them on trips abroad. Archie went with them to South Africa in 2019, but Lilibet hasn’t been in the spotlight yet.
“Meghan thinks it will look good – the cute royal family with their cute royal kids will get the kind of attention Harry and Meghan want, especially now that they want to be big business owners,” Quinn said.
He also said, “While Harry and Meghan are getting more famous as royals, Kate and William are not as famous, and Harry and Meghan know that.”
