Shannen Doherty’s final public images before her death on Saturday showed her smiling with friends.
On June 16, the “Beverly Hills, 90210” actress was spotted leaving Kristy’s waterfront restaurant in Malibu, California, with her old friend Chris Cortazzo and a female companion.
The three seemed to be enjoying each other’s company and were in a good mood. Cortazzo even had Doherty encircled by an arm.
The actress accessorized with a black newsboy cap, flared trousers, and an oversized button-down T-shirt. In her arms, she had a brown paper bag.
Following a protracted fight with cancer, Doherty passed away at the age of 53.
After receiving a breast cancer diagnosis in March 2015, she openly conjectured that she would only have five years to live because the disease had spread to her lymph nodes.
She did, however, declare she was in remission in April 2017.
In February 2020, less than three years later, the “Charmed” alum disclosed that the cancer had returned at stage 4. She later developed brain metastases, and earlier this year, bone metastases.
Over the years, Doherty has been open about her mental and physical well-being. In April, she disclosed that she was getting ready to pass away by organizing her possessions and packing up her Tennessee home to make her mother’s final days “a lot easier.“
She stated in November 2023 that she thought she had a good amount of time left to live, even though she was mentally preparing her family and herself for the worst.
She told people at the time, “I’m not done with living, I’m not done with loving, I’m not done with creating, and hopefully I’m not done with changing things for the better.“
She expressed optimism about her cancer treatment plan in the June 25 episode of her podcast, “Let’s Be Clear.“
“The positivity is that because my molecular structure of my cancer cells changed recently, it means there’s a lot more protocols for me to try,” she explained.
Her brother Sean Doherty and mother Rosa Elizabeth Doherty survive the self-described “cancer slayer.“
At the time of her death, she was divorcing her third husband, Kurt Iswarienko, amicably and had no children.
