The woman who gave Alec Baldwin a real gun on the set of Rust is now speaking out against him. She’s not supporting him in the case of the accidental shooting death in 2021.
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s armorer, was found guilty in March of involuntary manslaughter. Now, she’s refusing to stand by Baldwin, who has a court date in July.

Halyna Hutchins, who tragically lost her life, shared her final Instagram post just two days before the accident. She captioned it, “One of the perks of shooting a western is you get to ride horses on your day off.” The post showed her riding a horse on the Rust set, filmed near Santa Fe.
On October 21, during a practice for the movie, a 42-year-old cinematographer named Halyna Hutchins was accidentally shot by Alec Baldwin with a prop gun.
The gun, given to Baldwin by the weapons supervisor, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, fired real bullets instead of blanks. Sadly, Hutchins died, and the director, Joel Souza, was injured.
The armorer, Gutierrez-Reed, was found guilty in March 2024 of involuntary manslaughter. Prosecutors said she didn’t follow important safety rules.
Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, 27, has been given an 18-month prison sentence for her part in the incident.
Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer told Gutierrez-Reed that she was responsible for ensuring the gun was safe. “You turned a safe weapon into a deadly one,” the judge said.
Alec Baldwin, 66, spoke to ABC News about the tragedy, saying he would never purposefully harm anyone. He claimed he didn’t know how a real bullet ended up on set. “Someone put a real bullet in a gun, a bullet that wasn’t supposed to be there,” Baldwin said.

Special prosecutors Kari T. Morrissey and Jason J. Lewis filed documents on April 12 objecting to the armorer’s request for probation instead of prison time. They say she hasn’t taken responsibility for her actions.
In one call summary, Gutierrez-Reed says she won’t go to Baldwin’s trial if subpoenaed, complaining that he didn’t come to hers.
She also reportedly insulted Morrissey and the jury.
