The woman who gave Alec Baldwin a real gun on the set of Rust is now speaking out against him. She’s not supporting him in the case of the accidental shooting death in 2021.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, the film’s armorer, was found guilty in March of involuntary manslaughter. Now, she’s refusing to stand by Baldwin, who has a court date in July.

Stay tuned to find out what she said in a recorded phone call from prison!

Halyna Hutchins, who tragically lost her life, shared her final Instagram post just two days before the accident. She captioned it, “One of the perks of shooting a western is you get to ride horses on your day off.” The post showed her riding a horse on the Rust set, filmed near Santa Fe.

On October 21, during a practice for the movie, a 42-year-old cinematographer named Halyna Hutchins was accidentally shot by Alec Baldwin with a prop gun.

The gun, given to Baldwin by the weapons supervisor, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, fired real bullets instead of blanks. Sadly, Hutchins died, and the director, Joel Souza, was injured.

The armorer, Gutierrez-Reed, was found guilty in March 2024 of involuntary manslaughter. Prosecutors said she didn’t follow important safety rules.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, 27, has been given an 18-month prison sentence for her part in the incident.

Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer told Gutierrez-Reed that she was responsible for ensuring the gun was safe. “You turned a safe weapon into a deadly one,” the judge said.

Alec Baldwin, 66, spoke to ABC News about the tragedy, saying he would never purposefully harm anyone. He claimed he didn’t know how a real bullet ended up on set. “Someone put a real bullet in a gun, a bullet that wasn’t supposed to be there,” Baldwin said.

Alec Baldwin, known for his role in 30 Rock, spoke up at the Boulder Film Festival to defend himself. He said he trusted the people in charge of safety on set. But now, he’s in big trouble.

Baldwin is accused of involuntary manslaughter and has pleaded not guilty. His trial is set for July in Santa Fe.

Prosecutors want Gutierrez-Reed to testify for Baldwin, but phone calls she made from prison suggest her testimony might not help him.

Special prosecutors Kari T. Morrissey and Jason J. Lewis filed documents on April 12 objecting to the armorer’s request for probation instead of prison time. They say she hasn’t taken responsibility for her actions.

In one call summary, Gutierrez-Reed says she won’t go to Baldwin’s trial if subpoenaed, complaining that he didn’t come to hers.

She also reportedly insulted Morrissey and the jury.

In a shocking call, Gutierrez-Reed says she wants Baldwin to go to jail.

The public is saddened by the tragedy and is calling for stricter safety rules on set to prevent accidents like this in the future.

A Twitter user comments on Hannah Gutierrez-Reed’s 18-month sentence for her role in the Rust shooting, saying her jail calls influenced the sentence. They warn against talking about cases on jail phones.

Another defends Alec Baldwin, saying it’s unfair for him to take all the blame. They stress the need for better safety on sets.

Someone else mentions Baldwin’s upcoming trial, suggesting more justice will come in July.

About two months after Gutierrez-Reed’s conviction, Baldwin and his wife announced a new reality show called The Baldwins, set to air in 2025.

Alec Baldwin and his wife Hilaria are inviting people into their home through a new reality show called The Baldwins. In an Instagram clip, Baldwin says, “We’re inviting you into our home to experience the ups and downs; the good, the bad, the wild and the crazy. Home is the place we love to be most.”
