Stranger Things fans think they’ve figured out a hidden reference to the first ever episode of the show in the upcoming season.
Netflix have begun dropping hints for the final season of the biggest original franchise they have produced, this time in the form of releasing several of the episode titles for season five.
The final season will see the main cast return, with Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Caleb McLaughlin, and Sadie Sink among the main cast members set to return for one last instalment of Stranger Things.
As hinted at the end of season four, this will see the final battle between Vecna and the Upside Down against the kids and adults of Hawkins.
The newest teaser is customary for Stranger Things, with the show created by The Duffer Brothers often hiding little hints in the episode titles which they will release prior to the show’s air date.
Stranger Things teaser for the final season
The teaser, accompanied by the caption: “In the autumn of 1987, one last adventure begins. Stranger Things 5 coming 2025”, reveals that the episodes will be titled as follows:
“The Crawl, The Vanishing of [redacted], The Turnbow Trap, Sorcerer, Shock Jock, Escape from Camazotz, The Bridge, and The Rightside Up.”
Though some references are obvious, such as Sorcerer referring to the show’s links to Dungeons and Dragons, and The Rightside Up being an inversion of The Upside Down, others have slightly sneakier links to the show.
One in particular that has taken the fancy of fans is the redacted name in the second episode title listed.
This is a reference to the first-ever episode of the show, with the inaugural episode being titled The Vanishing of Will Byers.
One theory on Reddit reckons that by redacting the name, this leaves one obvious solution to them: “The missing Wheeler is most likely Holly”.
Holly is the youngest sister of Nancy and Will Byers, with fans theorising that a young actor, Nell Fisher will be playing a recast version of the character.
Fisher has been confirmed to appear in the final season, but has not had their role confirmed yet.
Fan theory about Stranger Things episode title
The theory went on to say: “The vanishing of a member of the Wheeler Family, and their role being important enough to be referenced in an episode title also match the fact that they’ve been filming a surprising amount of scenes at the Wheelers’ house, implying that they are indeed having a bigger role this season.”
One other title, Escape from Camazotz, has elicited a similar number of theories.
Many have pointed to a Camazotz being a bat-creature/god from Mayan mythology which literally means Death Bat.
One theory however, has pointed to a major [spoiler heavy] death from season four, and theorised it could lead to a major return.
SPOILER WARNING AHEAD – Stop reading now if you haven’t seen Stranger Things season four
They posted on r/StrangerThings to say: “So we can see episode 6 is titled escape from Camazots and Camazotz is a death bat god creature in Mayan mythology.
“Could this be hinting to Eddie, who was consumed by demobats and may have later transformed into Camazotz?
Eddie Munson was played by Joseph Quinn, and sacrificed himself in season four (Netflix)
“Camazotz is also associated with sacrifice that also makes sense considering how Eddie was killed”.
While Joseph Quinn is unlikely to appear in a major way in season five due to a) Eddie’s death, and b) his filming schedule for the upcoming Fantastic 4 movie, this could be a backdoor way for him to come back.

It’s felt like ages since we last had a season of Stranger Things, and it’s potentially going to be a while longer until the next.
But, to keep those of us who are still hanging on going, they’ve released the very beginning of the final season.
Ok, it’s not a very big Stranger Things announcement, but it is an exciting little teaser.
First though, let’s rewind back to July 2022, all the way back to season four finale.
And let’s face it, a whole lot happened. Oh, in case I didn’t mention it already, spoilers ahead.
It’s the season that had ‘Running Up That Hill’ shooting back up the charts, as the power of her mates and Kate Bush helped warn off Vecna from Max.
Obviously, season four also had that scene with Eddie playing the mega guitar solo on top of a trailer in the upside down to attract the demo-bats. Still not over it.
Oh, and Hopper’s in a Russian prison battling a Demogorgon.
Eleven spends most of the time having flash backs to her past and realises how she actually caused the first Upside Down gate to open, realising that Henry is in fact Vecna.

She’s eventually freed by Brenner (papa) who tells her he is proud of her and she is family before he dies.
At the very end, Hopper and Eleven are reunited, but Will says he can still feel Vecna’s presence.
Now, the official X account for the writers of the show have revealed the opening scene where season five will pick up.
“Season 5. Chapter 1. Scene 1,” the tweet read, followed by a picture of the script.
“The sound of COLD WIND. GROANING TREES.
“And…
“A CHILD’S VOICE. Singing a familiar song:”
And…. Yep that’s it. That’s how season five begins.
But obviously speculation has begun as fans decide who they think that voice belongs to, where the scene is and just what is going on.
Netflix
Many were quick to suggest, and this might not surprise you: “IT’S WILL.”
Another even shared a throwback from Season 1, Episode 7, with Will laying on the floor and the lyrics: “Should I stay or should I go now?”
Others speculated that season 5 will start with ‘a flashback of Will in the upside down’.
Plenty do think it’s going to be ‘Will in the upside down’ singing ‘should I stay or should I go’ again.
However, others did say: “Your teasing us with crumbs… please more!” as they attached Oliver Twist memes.
As one put: “OH COME ON HOW YOU GONNA LEAVE US WITH THIS. (p.s. I can’t wait for season 5).”
Yesterday (6 November) marked Stranger Things Day, and a whole year ago The Duffer Brothers revealed Chapter One of the new season will be called ‘The Crawl’.
There’s still no set release date but hopefully it won’t be toooo long.

It’s been nearly eight whole years since Stranger Things began.
Way back in 2016, when the show first landed on Netflix, the world was truly introduced to Millie Bobby Brown.
The star began playing Eleven when she was just 12-years-old and now, as filming for season five is finally underway, she’s 20.
Stranger Things season four premiered back in 2022 and it looks like we’ve got quite a wait for the next episodes – set to be the final – as Brown confirmed on Capital Radio this week.
And last night, the actor appeared on The Jonathan Ross Show alongside the likes of top lad Luke Littler, Brits winner Raye, comedian Rob Beckett, Liam Gallagher and John Squire.
She confessed that she hadn’t yet read the final few scripts but she does already know what happens to Eleven.
And some viewers reckon she might have slipped up despite having to swear secrecy on the character’s fate and the show’s plot.
One user wrote on X: “When Millie Bobby Brown said “I know how she, er, I know what happens to my character” about the Stranger Things final series ending, I bet the Netflix bosses were like nooooooooo!!!!”
And another highlighted Brown’s choice of words: “Millie Bobby Brown – ‘I know how my character,… like what happens to my character.’ On Jonathan Ross.
“‘How’ means dead.”
I mean, take from that what you will, but Brown seemed to have a little brief moment of panic as she tried to correct her wording.

Hey, she could have meant ‘how things turn out’ rather than ‘how she dies’…
The ending of Stranger Things is kept under tight wraps by Netflix but the stars on the show weren’t holding back in pushing her to reveal all.
But Brown insisted she ‘loves Netflix’ and ‘loves her job’ and ‘wants to be employed by them’ so she wasn’t going to give them any spoilers.
Earlier this week on Capital FM, the star revealed how she found out what would happen to Eleven.
“Well I haven’t read the end, I know what happens to my character because I kind of forced myself into the writers’ room,” she admitted.
“I messaged the directors and said ‘Can I come over and have a meeting with you’ and then I came over and there was a whiteboard.”
So it seems like the cast are being kept almost as in the dark as us.
Brown added: “I saw my ending and thought, ‘Oh’, and then I walked away very slowly.”

Millie Bobby Brown’s wedding will be officiated by her co-star and friend, Matthew Modine.
The two star on Netflix hit-series Stranger Things, with its final season currently in production as we speak.
Brown even scared fans recently when she almost slipped up when talking about the highly anticipated season on The Jonathan Ross Show.
The 20-year-old actress first starred on the series in 2016 as ‘Eleven’, a child with telekinetic and telepathic powers, that we later find is a result of experiments done on her by Dr. Martin Brenner.
Brenner is played by none other than Matthew Modine himself, who will join the Brit in marriage with fiance Jake Bongiovi, son of rock and roll legend Jon Bon Jovi.
Despite the hype and fandom around the series, Brown has stated that she is ready to move on from Stranger Things, comparing this final season to ‘graduating high school’.
With credits in films such as Damsel and the Enola Holmes franchise, it is clear that the young actress is moving on from ‘Eleven’.
And as her wedding date fast approaches, it looks like her growth is also going on off-screen.

Brown and Bongiovi have been dating since 2021, getting engaged in April 2023.
As wholesome as it is that Modine is officiating the wedding, he may have been one of the more unexpected co-stars to be chosen, for fans of the show.
He recently spoke to Access Hollywood about rumours around his involvement in her wedding, revealing: “I have one of the licences to get people married and Millie thought it’d be great and Jake [Bongiovi] said it’d be a great idea,
“So I wrote the wedding vows, and they loved what I wrote for them to join hands and become husband and wife.”
The 65-year-old actor, who played a role in Oscar-winning Oppenheimer in 2023, also said: “I’ve done it one time before, during Covid in upstate New York. It was an outdoor wedding and it was weird, but it’s such a beautiful thing to be able to join two people in holy matrimony.
Netflix
“I’ve been married 44 years, it’s amazing when it works,” he concluded.
Fans on social media have labelled the announcement as ‘wholesome’, with many wishing they knew the exact date, though it is unlikely to be revealed.
Stranger Things fans were also excited when the beginning of season five was released online in script form as the ultimate teaser.
Release of the final season is expected in 2025, so there’s still a long wait yet.

Millie Bobby Brown ‘agreed to marry’ one of her Stranger Things co-stars before her wedding to Jake Bongiovi.
The 20-year-old married the son of the legendary Jon Bon Jovi earlier this year and let’s face it, it made a lot of us feel pretty old.
Brown burst onto our screens as Eleven in the hit Netflix series a whole eight years ago now, and we’re finally set to get the fifth (and final) season in 2025.
Having practically grown up together, it’s fair to say plenty of the Stranger Things cast have formed strong bonds and friendships.

So close that, at one point, Brown vowed to marry Noah Schnapp (who turns 20 tomorrow, 3 October) if they were both still single when they turned 40.
Yep, if Brown hadn’t married Bongiovi, she might have been on track to wed the Will Byers actor.
In a 2022 interview, the Enola Holmes star told MTV News: “We said if we’re not married by 40, we’ll get married together because we’d be good roomies.
“Completely platonically, we would still be really good roomies.”
But she did go on to point out a few important conditions for their marriage pact.
“No kids, though, because I could not deal with a child of yours, yeah, that’s my dealbreaker too. Yeah, no kids at all,” the pair agreed

“Only dogs, and separate bedrooms, for sure, my God, you’re so messy.”
I mean, it sounds like her marriage to Bongiovi has probably turned out to be a better deal anyway.
But the pair did go on to open up about their close friendship at the time.
“We have built such a friendship together,” Brown said.
“And you’re also one of the longest friends I’ve ever had. I don’t know if you knew that, but like, I didn’t grow up in school, so I didn’t have any friends from my childhood. So you are really one of those people for me.”
And Schnapp agreed as he said their friendship helped with their ‘chemistry’ on screen as it all made going into work ‘so much easier’.
“I just love being at work and stuff, and I think when you love it and you’re having fun you could do such a better job,” he added.
“We both encourage each other and cheer each other on when we’re doing well. It’s nice to have that support.”
Brown also added that he’d always been her ‘biggest supporter’ and how important it is to have ‘boys who support girls’.
