PETA has blasted Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce for visiting a zoo when they could have visited ‘a true sanctuary’.
The animal rights organization has spoken out after the celeb couple were spotted enjoying a date at Sydney Zoo.
While visiting Down Under the ‘Blank Space’ singer seemingly missed her beau, Travis Kelce, who has now flown out to join her.
The couple decided to take a trip to the popular tourist location, and, according to Australian media, had a ‘private tour’ and were even photographed petting a baby kangaroo.
As wholesome as it sounds, Debbie Metzler, PETA’s Foundation Director of Captive Animal Welfare, has slammed the couple for the move.
Referencing Swift’s 2012 song, she told TMZ: “While we understand all too well the appeal of seeing Australia’s wildlife, PETA hopes that next time Taylor and Travis want to see wild animals, they’ll spend their time and money at a true sanctuary.”
They also explained that within a sanctuary you’re not allowed to touch or pet the animals, and are expected to keep a ‘respectable distance’ from them, which is said to serve as a ‘better environment for the animals’.
However, the star was seen petting and even feeding the animals at the zoo.
Swift is due to play the last four dates of the Aussie leg of her tour over the weekend, and it appears the singer is trying to pack as much time as possible with her Kansas City Chiefs boyfriend in between gigs.
The ‘All Too Well’ hitmaker has recently come under fire for how much CO2 she’s been accused of using by flying on her private jet.
Swift was previously named the ‘biggest celebrity CO2 polluter’ after allegedly producing 138 tons of emissions in three months.
In a statement to UNILAD, a spokesperson on behalf of Swift said at the time: “Before the tour kicked off in March of 2023, Taylor purchased more than double the carbon credits needed to offset all tour travel.
“The excess credits means Taylor could have accounted for more than enough to cover her latest romance springing up in the middle of her sell-out tour, with her trips to support Kelce upping her carbon emissions alongside her planned tour travels.”
