Every homeowner worries about having difficult neighbors.
But what if your neighbor changes their house so much that it’s hard to look at?
In an Austin, Texas suburb, one man painted his house a bright Pepto-Bismol pink. This has upset some of the people who live nearby.
In many neighborhoods in the U.S., there’s something called a Homeowners Association or HOA. They help make sure all the houses look similar and sometimes they pay for things like parks or pools for everyone to use.
But Emilio Rodriguez bought a house in Pflugerville, Texas because it doesn’t have an HOA.
That means he can paint his house pink, which is his favorite color. But some of his neighbors don’t like it.
“I love this house. I don’t know why people don’t like it,” Emilio said.
When Emilio first got the house, it was beige. But now, he’s painting more parts of it pink.
Some neighbors are not happy about the pink house. They worry it might make their houses worth less money.
But Emilio, who uses a wheelchair because of a car accident and other health problems, says the pink house makes him happy.
He also thinks it fits in with Austin’s quirky style, which is often called “Keep Austin Weird.”

What do you think about Emilio’s pink house?
Personally, I think we should learn to accept our neighbors and see this house as a helpful way for friends and delivery people to find our house easily. We had a neighbor with a similar-colored house, and she was one of the best neighbors we ever had. You’ll get used to it.
