The actor stars as Naomi Lapaglia in the hit film
Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street was arguably the film which made Margot Robbie an international star – and the actor worked hard to make sure her performance was as realistic as possible.
Based off of the true story of corrupt stockbroker Jordan Belfort (played by Leonardo DiCaprio), Robbie starred as his second wife Naomi Lapaglia – a role which required multiple sex scenes.
Despite the sexualised nature of the role, Robbie was comfortable with the part – later revealing that she’d suggested being naked in one scene to make it seem more real.
The scene in question saw Naomi seduce Jordan by inviting him over to her place after insisting they going to be friends.
Just as the stockbroker was contemplating whether or not to cheat on his current wife, Naomi appears fully naked in the doorway – a directorial choice that the actor herself insisted on.
Reflecting on the scene in an interview with The Telegraph after the movie was released, Robbie explained that she felt that nudity in TV and film should be accurate to a real-life scenario.

“I think nudity for the sake of nudity is shameful,” she explained. “If they’ve put it in just so that a girl gets her top off, then that’s disgusting. And you can always tell.”
Robbie added: “But I also think it’s disgusting when someone would have got naked in real life, in the film they conveniently leave their bra on, or hold up the bed sheet.
“Seeing someone being choreographed into being covered up irritates me just as much.
“The whole point of Naomi is that her body is her only form of currency in this world.”
Robbie went on to explain that while Scorsese had offered to let her wear a robe in the scene, she insisted on being naked as she believed it was accurate to her portrayal of Naomi.

“She has to be naked. She’s laying her cards on the table,” she added.
While Robbie noted that she had felt some apprehension about being completely naked due to the inevitability of the scene ending up on the internet – or her brother seeing it – she went through with it due to commitment to the role.
And her dedication to the part has certainly paid off, with the actor going on to star in multiple blockbuster films such as Barbie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and The Suicide Squad.
Robbie also launched her own production company LuckyChap Entertainment, which has created films such as Emerald Fennell’s viral 2023 movie Saltburn.
