The former husband of Britney Spears, Sam Asghari, has given an insight into the reason for his divorce from the megastar.
Sam Asghari began dating Britney back in 2016, and eventually wed in a private ceremony in 2022 before calling it quits less than two years later, but have said to remain ‘positive about each other.’
In a recent interview with People, the fitness instructor turned actor revealed that he’s focusing on celebrating his time spent with the ‘Toxic’ singer, sharing:
“It was a blessing to be able to share life with someone for a long time. And people grow apart and people move on.”
29-year-old Asghari was the one to file the divorce just a year into married life, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’, a move which ‘shocked’ Britney, as she took to Instagram to share the news, writing: “6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I’m a little shocked but … I’m not here to explain why because its honestly nobody’s business, but, I couldn’t take the pain anymore honestly.”
However in his most recent interview, Asghari looked back on his marriage with the singer as an ‘amazing experience.’
“I’ve always hated people leaving a certain relationship — and at some point they told each other they love each other and they sat at the same table and ate food [together] — so I never understood when people part ways [and] they talk badly about each other,”
has “That’s something I’m never going to do because I had nothing but an amazing experience and a great life, and that’s always going to be part of my life, a chapter of my life.” he told People.
The fitness instructor, who stayed by Britney’s side throughout the fight to end her conservatorship last year, has said to be focusing on a ‘healthy lifestyle’ and furthering his career as he gears up for his 30th birthday this month.
“I used to think people that were 30 years old were so old when I was in high school. But for every person I talk to, the older they get, the more they get to enjoy life because with age comes wisdom and experiences,” he says. “And I think experiences in life are beautiful, so that’s something that I’m just super excited to just be fulfilled with.”
He remains positive about his former relationship with the star, and has said he’ll always look back at that time as a ‘beautiful’.
“I always have the most positive mindset about life. My experiences in life have shaped me into the man I am today. I will continue growing. I come from a place where we celebrate our past,” he says. “I look back fondly. My past was a blessing and beautiful.”

Sam Asghari has released a statement on social media after filing for divorce from Britney Spears.
The two only got married in June last year and had been dating for five years prior to their big day.
However, it appears they want to go their separate ways.
The Iranian-American fitness model and actor has lodged an application to split from his pop star wife.
He has cited ‘irreconcilable differences’ as the reason for breaking up.
There had been some rumblings that the two weren’t doing too well in the last few months and TMZ claims they recently had a ‘nuclear argument’ that sparked the divorce.
It’s alleged Sam confronted Britney with allegations of infidelity, however the nature of those rumors haven’t been revealed or confirmed.
Asghari has now posted a statement on his Instagram that confirms they are breaking up.
“After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end out journey together,” he said.
“We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always.
“S**t happens.
“Asking for privacy seems rediculous [sic] so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful.”
Sam Asghari is reportedly threatening to release ‘extraordinarily embarrassing’ information about his estranged wife if their prenup is not renegotiated.
A source has told Page Six that Asghari wants the ‘Gimme More’ singer pay more than what they agreed in their prenup agreement ‘in order to keep her secrets’.
In the lead up to their star-studded wedding last summer, Spears and Asghari signed a prenup agreement that Page Six revealed was in ‘favor’ of the singer.
The source claimed: “Any money she made before the wedding is protected.”
Spears’ attorney Mathew Rosengart, who helped terminate spears from conservatorship allegedly helped work out her ‘ironclad’ premarital agreement.

Following the sad news of Britney Spears and her husband announcing their divorce, it seems Sam Asghari isn’t quite taking the split as seriously as he should be.
Sam Asghari, a 29-year-old actor, model and fitness trainer from Iran, met the ‘Oops!…I Did It Again’ singer in 2016 when she was shooting the video for then track ‘Slumber Party’.
At the time, Britney was fighting a case to end her father Jamie’s conservatorship, which she won just a couple of months before the two married.
Having gotten engaged in September 2021 and married in June 2022, the celebrity marriage lasted just over a year and the pair are now proceeding with divorce.
There had been rumours of ‘marital struggles’ circulating in the media for a while, with the pair being papped without their wedding rings in public.
Sam was the one to first announce the split on his Instagram, in which he wrote: “After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together.
“We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. Asking for privacy seems ridiculous [sic] so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful.”
However, some fans are starting to believe that Sam has gone against his own message of being respectful during the difficult time for the pair, as he’s taken to social media to ask for his followers’ advice on what disguise to wear to hide from paparazzi.
The post, shared to his Instagram story yesterday (19 August) was set up as a question that followers could respond.
It read: “Help me choose a paparazzi disguise,” with a thinking emoji. Below the question was three images of Sam with three different filters on, sporting a range of haircuts and sunglasses.
Disgusted fans have taken to Twitter to share their outrage, with one simply writing: “This is not a joke.”
Whilst another added: “Sam Asghari’s attempt to involve fans in his paparazzi disguise decision shows a lack of sensitivity towards his ongoing divorce from Britney Spears.
“It’s disappointing to see him trivialize such a serious matter for personal gain.”
It seems the model, who has 3 million followers, has turned off his comments on his most recent posts.
However, if you scroll back as far as May it’s clear that Britney’s fans are still finding ways to let him know that they believe he has done her wrong.
