Some McDonald’s fans are saying Sweet ‘n’ Sour sauce has been ‘ruined’ for them after learning what it’s made of.
My personal favorite is sweet curry sauce, but the ingredients in that is a matter for another day.
Dipping sauces were first introduced at McDonald’s in 1982 to accompany the fast food chain’s popular McNuggets, but still to this day some people aren’t aware of what its Sweet ‘n’ Sour sauce is actually made of.
And it turns out there’s a particular fruit in the condiment that many people might not have expected.
Lauren Phillips gleefully ruined her co-host’s day after revealing the ingredients as he was midway through munching through the perfect combo of McNuggets and Sweet ‘n’ Sour sauce.
Lauren made her co-host Jason Hawkins proclaim that ‘today was a good day’ as she brought in the McDonald’s order.
“Jason, you need to get into those nuggets and get into in particular your favorite sauce,” she said.
Jason, more than happy to chow down, began dipping his nuggets in the sauce and getting through the order with speed.
“Would you believe, it is actually apricot flavor?” Lauren added.
Jason stopped in his tracks, seemingly heart-broken and discarded his half-eaten nugget complaining that he ‘hates apricots’. He added he can even taste the apricot, now being aware of the fruit within the sauce.
Lauren then continued to joke that she had ruined his favorite order and TikTok users very much felt the same.
“You have ruined my favorite sauce,” one flustered user commented.
“I can now never have sweet and sour sauce again,” said another.
“Now that I’ve heard that it actually does taste like apricot. Big Mac sauce and nuggets is where it is at though,” another commented.
“My husband is the same, hates Apricot. Despises apricot chicken the most too. Haha I can’t wait to tell him.”
Some users did clarify that this apricot ingredient was not necessarily in other sweet and sour sauces.
The official McDonald’s Australia TikTok account went on to address the stunned fans.
“Hear me out, try dipping your Soft Serve in Sweet and Sour Sauce,” the account wrote.
Other users smugly questioned how other McDonald’s fans weren’t aware of the ingredient.
“How do people not know this?” one asked.
“Sweet n Sour is essentially Apricot jam and white vinegar,” another claimed.
Other ingredients in Sweet ‘n Sour sauce include salt, xanthan gum, peach puree, garlic powder, cellulose gum, caramel colour, extractives of paprika dried chili peppers, onion powder and more.
