More and more people are asking for Harrison Butker, the kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs, to be fired because of his commencement speech, which has caused a lot of controversy.
Butker spoke to graduating students at Kansas’s Benedictine College last weekend about a number of issues that are important to Christian conservatives. These included Pride Month, women’s roles, abortion, and in vitro fertilization. He said that Pride Month promoted “dangerous gender ideologies” and was like “deadly sins.” He also said that President Joe Biden was “delusional” and, most controversially, said that a woman’s “most important title” should be “homemaker.”

Howeverker said, “I believe that you women have been told the most evil lies.” Some of you may have successful jobs after this, but I think the majority of you are most excited about getting married and having kids. I know that my lovely wife Isabelle would be the first to say that she felt like her life really began when she became a wife and mother. He added, “All of my success is possible because a girl I met in middle school band class became a Christian, married me, and took on one of the most important roles of all: homemaker.” He was holding back tears.

The things Butker said have gotten a lot of negative responses, mostly from liberals. His speech went viral, and soon there were several Change.org petitions calling for the Chiefs to cut ties with him. At the time this was written, more than 130,000 people had signed the top petition.

The petition says that Harrison Butker, the kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs, should not have said hurtful things during his commencement speech at Benedictine College. “What he said was racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-trans, and against abortion.” These hurtful comments about LGBTQ+ people, attacks on abortion rights, and racial discrimination keep people apart and hurt human rights.

Also in the petition, it says that “our sports stars should be role models promoting respect for all people regardless of their race, gender identity, or sexual orientation.”

Thanks for reading. This summary talks about the trouble and the requests that were made against Harrison Butker because of it.
