A little more than a year after his wife, Lindsay Clancy, allegedly killed their three young children, Patrick Clancy ran the Boston marathon in their honor. Lindsay Clancy, who her attorney says suffered from postpartum depression, allegedly killed her children, 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan, and then attempted suicide while her husband ran errands on January 24, 2023. When Patrick Clancy returned to their home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, a short time later, he discovered the gruesome scene.
In the days following the tragedy, loved ones banded together to support the grieving father as he tried to put his life back together. Today, he wanted to give back to his community and ran to support the Miles for Miracles team at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Patrick Clancy adored his children.
The doting father wrote on the Boston Children’s Hospital fundraising page about each of his three children and why he was called to help in the wake of his own personal tragedy.
“In the short time they were here, my kids brought me so much joy and couldn’t have made their dad prouder. It goes without saying that losing them has been devasting and it’s a heartbreak that I’ll live with forever, but I’ve committed myself to honoring their memory by trying to bring positive change,” he explained, 15 News reported. “In many ways, I’m just trying to be more like them. Their passion in life was infectious.”
Although Cora and Dawson died at home, Callan clung to life a bit longer.
The father credited the team at Boston Children’s for helping him in the final days of his youngest child’s life.
“Callan spent his last moments in my arms before he passed at Boston Children’s Hospital. Although I wished so badly for a different outcome, I was overwhelmed by the compassion and professionalism of the doctors and nurses in the ICU. They gave me a little more time with my boy and I’ll forever be grateful for that,” Patrick Clancy wrote.
He has surpassed his original fundraising goal.
The father of three set out to raise $65,000 for the hospital but has raised more than $72,000 thus far. He explained his excitement for the race and expressed his gratitude to all the generous donors.
“Monday will be a special day. I wish words could adequately express my thanks for your support and how uplifting it is,” he wrote on the page. “With Cora, Dawson, and Callan in spirit, see you at the finish line.”
A GoFundMe account created to support Patrick Clancy raised more than $1 million.
The original fundraiser brought in donations surpassing seven figures. He sent a message to donors on the site in January 2023, asking the public to forgive his wife.
“I want to ask all of you that you find it deep within yourselves to forgive Lindsay, as I have. The real Lindsay was generously loving and caring towards everyone – me, our kids, family, friends, and her patients. The very fibers of her soul are loving. All I wish for her now is that she can somehow find peace,” he wrote at the time.
Lindsay Clancy remains hospitalized.
The mother of three and former nurse is paralyzed because of the injuries she received after she reportedly jumped from a second-story window of her family’s home. Per NBC 10, Lindsay Clancy remains in a mental health facility, held without bond, and her lawyers blame the tragedy on postpartum depression and overmedication. The mother pleaded not guilty to killing her children.
Patrick Clancy completed the Boston Marathon at 3:15 p.m. ET in just over four hours.
